PRÉFACE

A p r è s avoir collaboré avec le Comité International pour la Documentation d e s S c i e n c e s S o c i a l e s pour établir la " L i s t e mondiale des périodiques s p é c i a l i s é s dans l e s s c i e n c e s s o c i a l e s " (1 ) et a p r è s avoir lui-meme publié cinq a u t r e s l i s t e s mondiales, concernant respectivement la P s y c h o l o g i e , la Philosophie, l e s Etudes A f r i c a i n e s , la Linguistique et l'Amérique Latine (2), le S e r v i c e d ' E c h a n g e d'Informations Scientifiques de la Maison d e s S c i e n c e s de l'Homme met à la disposition d e s c h e r c h e u r s un nouveau r é p e r t o i r e , relatif aux S c i e n c e s de l ' E d u c a t i o n . C e l u i - c i r e c e n s e et décrit 738 périodiques. Comme l e s o u v r a g e s qui l'ont précédé dans cette collection, ce r é p e r t o i r e mentionne seulement l e s périodiques à c a r a c t è r e scientifique ( c . a . d . l e s r e v u e s présentant le r é s u l t a t de nouvelles r e c h e r c h e s ou d e s études o r i g i n a l e s ) . En application de c e c r i t è r e , un grand nombre de r e v u e s examinées a été é c a r t é du r é p e r t o i r e (ainsi l e s r e v u e s pédagogiques touchant à l'enseignement primaire et secondaire en différents é t a t s a m é r i c a i n s ) . On a retenu toutefois quelques périodiques donnant d e s traductions d ' a r t i c l e s q u ' i l est difficile d'obtenir dans leur langue d ' o r i g i n e ("Soviet Education" "Chinese Education", par exemple). Ont également trouvé place dans le r é p e r t o i r e d e s r e v u e s qui ne répondent p a s toujours t r è s exactement aux exigences de la sélection mais sont l e s s e u l e s à pouvoir, dans le domaine d i s c i p l i n a i r e , r e p r é s e n t e r leur p a y s . En revanche, l e s r e v u e s s e consacrant uniquement à l'enseignement d ' u n e discipline particulière ont été systématiquement éliminées : de par leur nombre, e l l e s auraient

considérablement chargé la l i s t e , sans o f f r i r aux s p é c i a l i s t e s une compensation suffisante. L ' é t a b l i s s e m e n t du r é p e r t o i r e a n é c e s s i t é tout d ' a b o r d de t r è s nombreuses r e c h e r c h e s en bibliothèques à P a r i s et à Genève. A P a r i s l e s principales r e c h e r c h e s ont été effectuées à l ' I n s t i t u t national de r e c h e r c h e et de documentation pédagogiques, à 1'UNESCO, à l ' I n s t i t u t international de planification de l ' é d u c a t i o n , à la Bibliothèque nationale, dans différentes bibliothèques u n i v e r s i t a i r e s , et au B r i t i s h Council. A Genève, la bibliothèque du Bureau international d'éducation a a i m a b l e ment mis s e s c o l l e c t i o n s à notre disposition, l o r s d'un voyage effectué en mars 1 9 7 3 . Que toutes l e s personnes qui nous ont aidés dans c e s différents établissements et particulièrement au B . I . E . , veuillent bien a c c e p t e r tous nos remerciements pour l e u r bienveillante c o l l a b o r a t i o n . Parallèlement à c e s r e c h e r c h e s , ont été menées deux enquetes s u c c e s s i v e s , la 1 è r e au début de l ' a n n é e 1972 et la 2e à la fin de la même année, auprès des c e n t r e s de documentation pédagogique existant dans l e s différents pays du monde. Nous avons utilisé pour conduire notre enquete le Guide international de la documentation pédagogique (2e édition, P a r i s , UNESCO, 1 9 7 1 ) , qui fournit pour un grand nombre de pays l e s a d r e s s e s des c e n t r e s nationaux de documentation pédagogique ; pour l e s pays non mentionnés dans le Guide, nous avons contacté l e s s e r v i c e s c u l t u r e l s des a m b a s s a d e s . Sur 146 pays i n t e r r o g é s , 56 ont envoyé une r é p o n s e . Pour l e s pays qui n ' o n t pas répondu, l e s renseignements seront sans doute moins exhaustifs que pour l e s a u t r e s . Néanmoins l e s enquetes au niveau n a tional n ' o n t pas été l e s seules e n t r e p r i s e s : afin de p a l l i e r l e s l a c u n e s , l e s r e v u e s dont l e s t i t r e s nous étaient connus, mais dont la consultation s ' a v é r a i t impossible à P a r i s , ont été systématiquement r e q u i s e s auprès de chaque r é d a c t i o n . Quelque 1 500 c i r c u l a i r e s ont ainsi été e n v o y é e s . L e s 56 pays qui ont eu l ' o b l i g e a n c e de nous r é p o n d r e , nous ont a d r e s s é des renseignements t r è s v a r i é s , c e qui explique que c e r t a i n e s notices ne soient pas complètes ; mais nous avons estimé que, pour c e r t a i n s pays, il valait mieux moins d'information que pas d'information du tout. Le Danemark a constitué un c a s p a r t i c u l i e r , en c e sens que le Danemarks Paedagogiske Bibliotek nous a envoyé une l i s t e t r è s complète des r e v u e s d'éducation paraissant dans le pays, mais c e t t e l i s t e nous est malheureusement parvenue trop tard ; elle donnera matière à des f i c h e s que nous tenons à la disposition des l e c t e u r s qui nous en feront la demande. La présentation de chaque périodique est conforme dans s e s grandes l i g n e s , à c e l l e adoptée par la " L i s t e Mondiale des Périodiques S p é c i a l i s é s dans l e s S c i e n c e s S o c i a l e s " .

L e paragraphe c donne, par la description d ' u n numéro, une i n d i c a tion succincte de ce que l ' o n peut trouver dans la r e v u e . Toutes l e s indications fournies sont évidemment des moyennes. C ' e s t ainsi que l ' o n aura successivement le nombre de pages d ' u n e l i v r a i s o n , le nombre d ' a r t i c l e s de fond et la dimension de chacun, suivis d'indications sur les catégories catégories de sujets habituellement t r a i t é s . A la suite ont été mentionnés le nombre et la dimension moyenne des notes de r e cherche, des r u b r i q u e s d i v e r s e s , des chroniques d'informations, des r u b r i q u e s bibliographiques, des comptes-rendus analytiques ou critiques de l i v r e s ou d ' a r t i c l e s (avec, dans la mesure du p o s s i b l e , la dimension moyenne de chacun), etc . Éventuellement, un d e r n i e r paragraphe en Nota Bene ( N . B . ) donne les indications complémentaires sur certaines caractéristiques r e m a r quables du périodique, sur sa langue de publication quand c e l l e - c i n ' e s t pas la meme que celle du titre, etc. P l u s i e u r s index facilitent l'utilisation du r é p e r t o i r e . Le premier concerne les sujets généralement traités ou l e s secteurs disciplinaires dont ils relèvent, un meme titre de périodique pouvant s ' i n s c r i r e sous plusieurs termes d'indexation. L e second groupe, en o r d r e alphabétique, tous l e s titres de r e v u e s , y compris tous les titres des éditions multilingues, quel que soit le pays de publication. A f t e r collaborating with the International Committee f o r Social Sciences Documentation in the elaboration of a "World L i s t of Social Science P e r i o d i c a l s " (1), and itself having published f i v e other World L i s t s , one c o v e r i n g P s y c h o l o g y , an other Philosophy, the third A f r i c a n Studies, the fourth Linguistics, and the fifth Latin America (2), the S e r v i c e f o r the Exchange of Scientific Information of the Maison des Sciences de 1'Homme now presents a new inventory in the f i e l d of Educational Sciences . The list catalogues and d e s c r i b e s 738 p e r i o d i c a l s . Like the p r e vious inventories of this collection, this inventory only l i s t s scientific periodicals (in other words r e v i e w s giving the r e s u l t s of new r e s e a r c h or of original studies). By applying this c r i t e r i o n a great number of the periodicals examined w e r e eliminated from the list (thus the educational r e v i e w s concerning primary and secondary teaching in different American States). H o w e v e r some r e v i e w s containing translations of a r t i c l e s that a r é difficult to obtain in their original language w e r e maintained ("Soviet Education" and "Chinese Education" e . g . ) . This invent o r y also includes r e v i e w s which do not always correspond exactly to the c r i t e r i o n of selection, but a r e the only ones able to represent their country in this disciplinary f i e l d . In return, the r e v i e w s solely devoted to the teaching of a particular subject have been systematically eliminated : their great number would have considerably lengthened the l i s t , without providing the r e s e a r c h e r with sufficient compensation. The compilation of the inventory has r e q u i r e d lengthy l i b r a r y r e s e a r c h in P a r i s and in Geneva. In P a r i s , the main r e s e a r c h was
