ITH OUR NEW CATALOGUE we introduce and offer to our friends and patrons our new line of Fire-Proof, Burglar-Proof and Skeleton Safes, the equal, if not the superior, of any on the market. At an expense of many thousands of dollars, and by the employment of a large force of skilled pattern makers, we have produced an entirely new and complete line of brass patterns and models, the best and most complete in the world. With them we are able to turn out better Safes than ever before. We have adopted the plan of placing all front and back angles on the outside of the bod~i plate instead of the inside, as heretofore. We use only the highest grade and strongest of wrought-iron angles for this purpose, they forming a continuous one-piece band around the entire front and back edges of every safe. We have just invented a new non-pickable combination lock-a marvel of simplicity to him who knows its combination, but which cannot be operated in any way by one not familiar with its various numbers and movements. We do not claim to make the only safe on the market, and we deprecate any attempt to sell our goods by disparaging those of our competitors. We do claim that no safe is made that in point of strength, durability, fire-proof qualities, grade of materials, excellency of workmanship and beauty of finish excels ours. They are positively the best that can be produced.
Safes are Sold by Size, not by Weight )
We approximate the weight for guidance in ascertaining freight rates, but two safes of the same size may differ as much as one hundred pounds. We cannot agree to supply any special weight. We sell by size, and, regardless of weight, guarantee every Safe Fire-Proof.
Name5 of Customers are Lettered on the top bar of Safes free of charge. A printed copy of name should be supplied, if possible.
We Can Not Make Any Change in the height and width of any safe, but the depth can be changed, if desired. Cost of extra depth will be quoted on application.
We Will Make any changes in the interior wood work that may be desired, or paint any design or emblem on the door, charging for the same only its exact cost to us.
l1.ey Locks Furnished on any of our safes, instead of combination locks, if preferred. is the same as for combination locks.

year, fo~ almost half a century, we have manufactured thousands of our fire-proof safes ~ and have distributed them to every country and clime in the world, yet have never known of one that, when tried by fire, has proved defective or failed to preserve its contents ' uninjured. Our constant endeavor is to improve the quality-not to see how cheap we can manufacture-but how good a safe we can turn out at a reasonable cost. None but the best skilled labor and the highest grade materials are utilized. The reputation of our output is our most valuable possession, and not to be jeopardized by saving in cost of construction.
Nothing has been more fully tested and more sa ~ isfactorily endorsed than our "Cement Concrete," which is a first-class non-conductor, and remains perfectly dry until great heat is applied; then a vast amount of water, which this material absorbs in becoming concrete, is evolved and converted into steam. By its use we obtain two great essentials for the composition of fire-proof filling, viz.: 1st-Entire freedom from corrosion or dampness during the ordinary use of the safe. 2nd-Great strength to resist fracture from falling, and a large supply of latent water to resist the ravages of fire and heat. We construct our Fire-Proof Safes by forming outer and inner boxes of wrought steel, between which the concrete filling is introduced in a semi-liquid state, permeating and reaching into every crevice, making the whole structure, when hardened, a solid mass. The filling soon becomes hard and dryas limestone rock, and never corrodes the steel, which is sufficiently thick to cause great strength in connection with the filling, and yet not thick enough to prove injurious as a conductor of heat. The secret of its fire-proof qualities is the chemical change that takes place upon its being heated to a high temperature, which generates a vapor that fills all the pores in the concrete, thereby forming a cool, moist wall entirely around the contents during its subjection to the heat. The outside steel box is formed of one continuous plate, bent round at the corners, forming top, sides and bottom. This box is securely attached to heavy front and back wrought-iron angle frames, forming in outline an all roundcornered safe. The doors are stepped or flanged in the usual manner, and · secured by front and back bolts. We use on all our safes our non-pickable combination lock, with "T" handle to operate the bolt work and open door, and dial knob to operate combination. The lock has three tumblers, and is set to three numbers, and by operating dial knob in a certain way in connection with the three numbers. the safe can be opened. Full instructions are sent with each safe, enabling every purchaser of a safe to reset his lock on different numbers, SQ that none will know the combination except himself. The exterior finish is first class, our cecorators being the best in the country. Name of the purchaser painted on the safe without extra charge. The lowest freight rate is always obtained, and safes are carefully and securely packed and delivered on board cars in Cincinnati.

Angles are 2 and 2 inches. Wrought-iron Plates are 1,4 inch thick, or heavier. Steel Plates are 5 ply best quality of Welded Steel and Iron. Screws are best quality Steel and Iro:1, twisted. Bolts are of Calendered Steel.
WALLS
The walls are built from the outside inward. When complete, no screw point or head can be seen from the outside. It is therefore impossible to locate the screws at any point from the outside. The screws pass through one plate and half through another. The next plate covers the heads of the preceding set of sGrews as each new plate is added, thus welding the various plates together in such a manner that it is utterly impossible even to locate a screw without beginning at the inside and removing each plate separately. The edges of all plates are ground true to insure a snug fit at every point. The door measures 4 inches thick, from the outside surface to the inside of lock cap. This, of course, includes the space occupied by the lock and bolt mechanism, solid thickness of doors being 2 inches, of alternate layers of wrought-iron and steel plates.
TEMPERING AND TESTING We have a rigid system of inspection in every department. Every piece is carefully inspected before it enters the workman's hands. Not a flaw is excuse :l or overlooked. Each piece of steel is tested, after being put through the tempering process.
LOCI\S AND SPINDLES We use our patented combination lock with four tumblers and our patented changing device. We need not urge that this feature of our lock is a super ~or one. Since bringing out this lock hundreds of robberies have occurred of every make of safe havin~ the old-style handle, fully vindicating us and corroborating our strong claim of superiority. We have published and can supply positive evidence that our lock has no equal. All locks on burglar-proof wo:k have detachable dials and built-in tempered steel spindles, so they cannot be driven in or pulled out.
~'The Safe was at a White Heat." White Cloud, Mich., March 18, 1899. The Alpine Safe & Lock Co., Cincinnati. O. Gentlemen-The Safe we purchased through your agent, J. C. Van Auken, last January, was put to as severe a test as any safe could well be subjected to. The heat was so intense as to melt off the bolts, handle, lock, rim, and part of hinges. The building was made of huge pine logs, and the fire was intense. The safe was at a white heat; it was three days in cooling off, and when we got it open, to our joy we found everything intact and every paper all right. We want you to ship us another No. 45 Safe, same as the other, at once, and oblige, Signed, THOMAS KELLY, Supervisor. F. S. SMITH, Clerk, Lincoln Township.
Paid for Itself. Rock Hill, S. C., April 4, 1904. The Alpine Safe & Lock Co., Cincinnati, O. Gentlemen-We enclose number of our safe we bought from you several years ago. We had quite an experience with safe crackers the other night. They battered up the combination and broke the handle, but did not succeed in getting in. If it had not been a good one we would have been in a hole tonight. What we want you to do is to send us, by first express, one combination lock and handle, as we cannot use safe until we get those parts. Please attend to this at once and oblige, Yours very truly, ROBBINS & ·WILSON.
No Injury to Contents of Eithert Norwalk, 0., Sept. 1, 1903. The Alpine Safe & Lock Co., Cincinnati, O. Gentlemen-Some time ago we purchased two of your safes for use in our office. On the morning of August 17 our entire printing plant was destroyed by fire, and very little was saved except what was in these safes. It was a very hot fire, as printing offices usually make, and the building was burned to the ground. Both safes went through the fire with no injury to the contents of either. Yours truly, THE LANING CO., Per A. T. Prentiss, Treasurer.
Alpine Safe a Wonder. Arkinda, Ark., June 25, 1906. The Alpine Safe & Lock Co., Cincinnati, O. Gentlemen-On March 5, 1906, my store and contents were completely burned out. I lost nearly everything I had in the store. I had one of your No. 45 Safes, the Alpine Safe, and it stood the test wonderfully; it was hot for several days. The hinges and dial knob completely melted off, which shows the terrible heat through which it passed, and after I succeeded in opening it, I found all its contents in good condition, consisting of papers, books and money. I want another No. 45 Alpine to take its place. Yours very truly, C. W. HELMS.
