Now let's make you acquainted with the best friend a scout ever had ... an Ml14 or Ml14Al Armored Command a.nd Reconnaissance Carrier. This sCOut-scooter can ta ke a three- m tn-crew places that a scout jeep could never climb or swim, and it gives that valuable hide of yours protection from small arms fire. So you think this is too good to be true ? It is true-all you havetodo is spend a little time maintaining this all-terrain buggy and you'll get the full advantage of its mobility, protection and punch. The Ml14 and the M 114A L are alike except for the commander's station. On the M114Al a .50-cal M2HB turret-type machine gun can be elevated, traversed , and fired with the commander's station hatch cover either open or closed. On the Ml14 the M2HB flex.type machine gun is pintle-mounted and can only be fired with the hatch open.

M116 Cargo Carrier If you have an Ml16 Cargo Carrier, a lot of the

dope on the M11 4 series will apply because they both have the same engine, transmission, geared steer, and idler wheel hubs. But there's also a lot of difference between the Ml16 and the Ml14. So, before interchanging a part check both vehicle TM's.

The M1l4 and the Ml14AI are alike except for the commander's station. PM Checks You'll be wanting to put your Scout-Scooter through its paces but first be sure she's ready. The vehicle commander is responsible for the before-operations checks. He makes some of them himself and assigns others to the driver or the observer. Change 2 (Jul 63) to youe TM 9-2320-224-10 (Jun 62) lists the PM checks and servicesThis little guide gives )'ou more dope on how to make friends with your Ml14.
