PREFACE The 123rd edition of T H E STATESMAN'S YEAR-BOOK, has been thoroughly revised but this could not have been achieved without the excellent co-operation the editor has received from hundreds of correspondents throughout the world. He is extremely grateful for this help. It has not been a great year for countries changing names but the reader will find that the South Sandwich Islands are now given as a separate chapter and that Aruba is no longer part of the Netherlands Antilles although still part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. During the last two years THE STATESMAN'S YEAR-BOOK WORLD GAZETTEER has been fully up-dated and is being published simultaneously with T H E STATESMAN'S YEAR-BOOK. The editor hopes that this third edition will continue to be a useful companion to the parent volume. J.P.
