PREFACE
T
his work entitled «Methodical recommendations» is designed for students of the 1-2 courses in specialties «International Relations», «International Law» and «Regional Studies» of the Faculty of International Relations. The main purpose of the manual is to help students to develop communicative skills (oral or written) on the given Topics by learning new words and phrases, by reading and analyzing texts, asking and answering questions, writing dictations, essays etc. Learning a language is not passive. There are tasks and exercises which involve pairwork, groupwork and whole class discussions. Working with others helps them solidify their understanding and expanding their ability to think critically. The manual consists of nine sections. Each section contains 15 topics relevant to the requirements of the syllabus. The recommendations are presented as the plan of the practical classes. Students acquire a lot of facts and information they begin to understand how to do things and how to imply general knowledge they have acquired. Each topic is provided with lexical minimum, which may be used for fulfilling the additional activities after reading the Text.

Besides there are special tasks to control themselves. These tasks help students set and check goals which let students see their own progress and measure how much they have learnt, make them revise the skills, grammar, vocabulary they learnt in previous units and study at least one hour each day, not just before tests or exams. These recommendations envisage to help teachers prepare the students for academic work in English by teaching not only vocabulary and grammar, but necessary skills to engage with topics, texts and effective discourse with classmates.
