INTRODUCTION The word procrastination originates from two Latin words—“pro," which means “for” and “cras,” which means “tomorrow.” The literal translation of these words is “to leave something for tomorrow.” In other words, procrastination is postponing the things we know we should do now. And if you are guilty of procrastination, we all know that it doesn’t mean just until tomorrow! When I was stuck in the procrastination rut, I had things on my todo list for years! Procrastination is the opposite of productivity. To produce, we’ve got to take action so that we can push things forward. When we procrastinate, we push things back to tomorrow, next week, and in some cases—never. Procrastination is a disease of the psyche that prevents people from reaching their highest potential in life. People who are content with mediocrity make jokes about procrastination, but when you get serious about life and realize that it is a severe hindrance to your progress, you will start making changes. That’s what happened to me; I have always wanted to be an author. I had written out the outline for my first book several years before it was published, but anytime I sat down to write it, I found myself indulging in every distraction and temptation possible—I just couldn’t get focused. As soon as I learned how to overcome procrastination, the sky was the limit for me! I am now at the top of my game, living the life of my dreams—a life that I once believed was only available to the “lucky ones.” I had no idea how much power I had over my future. I would look at people like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Oprah Winfrey and assume they had some special gene that propelled them into greatness. But I have learned that one of the ingredients for success is eliminating procrastination from your life. We all have 24 hours in a day to get things done, so why is it that some people manage to achieve more than others? They accomplish things because they don’t waste time on unproductive activities that hinder their progress. You are probably one of the many people who make statements like, “There just aren’t enough hours in the day.” If Bill Gates and Warren Buffet can become two of the richest men on the planet using the same 24 hours a day
that we all have, then it’s not that they are some extraterrestrial angelic beings, but that we waste the time that we have been given. When I stopped procrastinating, several things started to happen, and I believe you will experience them too, once you begin to apply the principles I have outlined in this book. You will feel relaxed and free—no more feelings of worthlessness and guilt for not getting things done. You will become more productive and effective. You will start following your dreams. You will start keeping important commitments. When you start achieving your goals, that success will boost your self-esteem. You will find that overcoming procrastination will set you on a path you had no idea was always there waiting for you to explore. This book will enlighten your mind and open your eyes to the infinite possibilities that are available to you, if only you are willing to put in the hard work. Achieving your core goals is dependent upon your ability to overcome procrastination, whether you want more financial freedom, happiness, or personal fulfillment— whatever you want out of life—this book will act as your guide by helping you overcome procrastination. The time is now, not tomorrow, not next week. Don’t waste another day— now is the time for transformation. Life doesn’t give you anything. You’ve got to take it, and unless you get up and go after it, you will never attain what you want! Dive deep into these eleven powerful chapters, put knowledge into action, stop procrastinating, and start living the purposeful life you were destined for.
