INTRODUCTION Carroll County, Mississippi, was
formed
in 1833 from
dian lands as a result of the Choctaw Cession.
In-
All divorces
and wills found from that time up to 1875 were abstracted. The original documents are available at the Carroll County Courthouse at Carrollton, Mississippi, and microfilm copies are available at the Mississippi State Archives. Will Book A was searched page by page. The first will was recorded in August 1834. Several wills were found which were not listed in the will book index and others in the index were listed under incorrect names, causing them to be inaccessible to researchers. Names of slaves have been included where given in the will. Residences were all Carroll County, Mississippi, except where noted otherwise. The only divorce records found in the Carroll County Courthouse for 1857 through 1875 were in three volumes of Chancery Court records. These volumes were unindexed and were searched page by page. No divorce records were found for the period before 1857.
