Exercise 11. A. 1. You love vanity. 2. Holy, holy, holy is the Lord, the mighty God. 3. Thou art holy, O God; Thou art holy, O the Mighty one; Thou art holy, O the Immortal one- 4. Crowns are plaited and set closely, and they place (them) on the holy altar. 5. The adorable cross of the Son of God is terrible to the devils, honourable to the angels and a strong fortress to the true faithful. 6. Lord (my) forgive us mercifully our debts and our sins (that have been) committed by us today. 7. And I trust in God that by this oil, which I take from Thee, my debts and sins shall be forgiven, (literally: this oil which I take from thee, by that my debts )• 8. In this world which passes (in it) there is repentance, but in that world which does not pass neither remorse (repentance) nor supplication shall be (or are) accepted. 9. Glory to Thy Trinity, because it forgives our debts- 10. Happy art thou, O Church, because the voice of the Son is made a guardian to thee and the bolts of hell shall not prevail against thee. 11. Destroy (kill) the sin that dwells in me and I am by my will made a slave. 12. The world is a sea in which, behold, all the waves of iniquity and wickedness are risen up. 13. The mouth is closed by the lamentable weeping, filled with sorrow. 14. Isaias has been sawn by (a piece o f ) wood, David persecuted, Daniel cast into a den, and John killed. 15. Whosoever that sells from the endowments of the church or snatches away (from them) for himself should be anathamatised pntil he returns (it). 34. If there be no difficult time or urgent necessity or distance of way a (new) bishop should be consecrated by all the bishops (who are) in the p r o vince. 35. But Alexander reigned (for) twelve years; and there were kings of the Greeks after Alexander; there were seventeen kings; and their years were two hundred and sixty nine (years) from Seleucos Nicanor to Ptolemy and there were Caesars from Augustus to Philip Caesar — twenty seven kings; and their years were two hundred and ninety three 'years); and eighteen years of Severus. 50. All the years between ( o f ) the first and the last destructions of Jerusalem constitute four hudred and sixty five (years); and when you deduct from them seventy years of Babylon (captivity) they constitute three hundred and ninety five years.
