More than ten years ago, Dr lan Gawler, a veterinarian and decathlon athlete, used

meditation

to help overcome

his own

cancer which

had

been diagnosed as terminal. Since then, he has assisted thousands into a personally satisfying experience of meditation. This book is the fruit of that experience. A large part of lan Gawler’s work is shared with his wife, Gayle, conducting the Melbourne Cancer Support Group for the Australian Cancer Patients’ Foundation. At the Living Centres, through residential and ongoing sessions, the Gawlers’ programmes help patients and

families to mobilise their own resources. These programmes which incorporate the meditation methods set out in this book have brought fresh hope and renewed health and peace of mind to many while inspiring the formation of a network of other active, self-help groups.

There have been many remarkable recoveries. In 1987, Dr Gawler was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in recognition of his service to the community.
