TO MARGARET
Preface of historical studies is the product of the writer's research for his doctoral dissertation entitled "A Study of the Chronology of the Eighteenth Egyptian Dynasty" (University of Toronto, 1965). To my teachers and colleagues who were kind enough either to read the manuscript or to proffer their discussion on sundry problems goes my warmest appreciation. These include Professors R . J. Williams, F. V . Winnett, A. K. Grayson, R. F. G. Sweet, and R .A. Parker. To Professor Parker I am also indebted for a photograph of the hieratic docket attached to EA 2 7. This work has been published with the help of grants from the Humanities Research Council, using funds provided by the Canada Council, and from the Publications Fund of the University of Toronto Press.
