The 1 704-1 705 plan oj Old Mobile.

This detailed pen-&-ink sketch of the layout of Old Mobile seems to have been intended to record town lots assigned to colonists in 1704 and 1705. Some of the individuals listed here. such as Levasseur and Tonti. died in 1704; others arrived in the colony in that year. A glance back at the 1702 town plan (on page 5) reveals how much the colonists' vision of their settlement evolved in a few short years. Six northern blocks had been abandoned, and in their place seven new town blocks and a large market square were proposed for the area west and southwest of the fort. A few colonists retained their original lots; others had relocated.
