STERLING DOW, Sathcr Professor of Classical Literature for the spring semester, 1964, is John E. Hudson Professor of Archaeology at Harvard, where he received the A.B., A . M . , and PhX). degrees. The five years preceding his doctorate he had spent in Greece, as a member of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, and since then has frequently returned to Greece for study and travel. A John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellow in 1934—35» he has been a member of the advisory board of the Guggenheim Foundation since 1951. He was a staff member in the Office of Strategic Services, Washington and Cairo, 1942-44.
