Fact s ab o u t t he p r ovince Quebec (spelled Québec in French) is a province in Eastern Canada. It is the largest of Canada's ten provinces by size. It also has the secondhighest number of people, after Ontario. Most of Quebec's inhabitants live along or close to the banks of the Saint Lawrence River. Not many people live in the north part of the province. Unlike the other provinces, most people in Quebec speak French (Canadian French) and French is the only official language. There is a strong French-language culture, which includes Frenchlanguage newspapers, magazines, movies, television and radio shows. Their culture and language, though, is different from that of France mainly because of anglicisation, having words that come from the larger English-speaking parts of Canada.

The government of Quebec has its offices in the capital, Quebec City, which is one of the oldest cities in North America. However the city with the most people in the province is Montreal, which is also the second-largest city in all of Canada.

Dufferin Terrace, Quebec

Located in Quebec City, Dufferin Terrace is a wooden sidewalk that wraps around the Château Frontenac. It’s known for its beautiful view of the St. Lawrence River. In the summer, you can watch street performers and listen to live music. If you visit in the winter, try tobogganing — the terrace has a sledding area! Pop into the Château Frontenac, a historic hotel, to wander through the building’s beautiful interior. Best times to go: All Year

Located near the St. Lawrence River, Quebec City Old Port is a historic area that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known for once being one of the largest ports in the world, the city is only a short distance from the downtown area of Quebec and features quaint streets with shops on almost every corner. It offers a calm and relaxing atmosphere as many homes are located along the riverfront, allowing people to see the fishing boats and cruise ships on the water while enjoying a refreshing breeze. Located only a short distance from Quebec City, Chaudiere Falls Park is one of the top attractions in Levis. Known for the breathtaking falls and a massive suspension bridge, the free public park offers plenty of parking and trails for those who don't want to walk on the bridge but want to see the 115-foot falls. There are stairs that lead right to the bottom of the falls as well as rock formations that offer a stunning backdrop against the water. Best times to go: Spring, Fall

Parc du Boisde-Coulonge Located in Quebec City, Parc du Bois-de-Coulonge is the Government House. Known for once being a viceregal residence, the home was where lieutenant governors would reside from 1870 to 1966. Public tours are offered of the home and of the property so that guests can see how the governors and their families once lived. There are several heritage buildings on the property aside from the main home along with a few wooded areas with trails and beautiful gardens with an assortment of flowers and plants. Grande Allee In the heart of Quebec City, Grand Allee is a block or less away from many major attractions, such as the Parliament Building and the Saint Louis Gate. Travel back in time as you admire the elegant Victorian architecture, home to Quebec’s wealthiest residents during the 1800s. Grand Allee is also the center of Quebec City’s nightlife. Have a pleasant dinner or drinks with friends in one of the many microbreweries, restaurants, nightclubs or bars with live entertainment. Best times to go: All Year

Huron-Wendat Museum Located in Wendake, the Huron-Wendat Museum is an attraction that features several exhibits that detail the wealthy culture associated with the Wendat people. Known for the traditional apparel and some of the rarest items associated with the Wendats, the museum offers several interactive exhibits where guests can get up close and personal with clothing and accessories. Themes that are seen throughout offer information about those who were native to the country along with outdoor gardens that show how plants were once used for medicinal purposes by the Wendat people. Ile d'Orleans

Located about five miles from Quebec City near the Saint Lawrence River, Ile d'Orleans is an island that was one of the first places where the French settled in the country. Known for its old-world charm and historic homes, there are several places where you can pick fresh strawberries, watch the boats dock along the shore, enjoy wine and cheese, or get a glass of fresh blackcurrant wine. Since the length of the island is only about 20 miles, it's easy to drive throughout the day and explore most of the attractions that are offered. Best times to go: Spring, Summer, Fall

Saint-Annede-Beaupre Shrine Located near the Saint Lawrence River, the SaintAnne-de-Beaupre Shrine is a basilica that holds chapel masses and special events. Known as being only one of the five shrines in the country, the Catholic Church has declared that it has been a place where miracles have occurred, such as the curing of those who are disabled or sick. Visitors are welcome in the shrine when mass is not being held. Guided tours are available for those who want to learn about the link between the Shrine and pilgrims as well as other historic groups. Ice HoteL Located within a short distance of Valcartier Vacation Village, the Ice Hotel is a seasonal accommodation for guests. Known as the only hotel that's made completely of ice and snow in North America, the structure is comprised of about 500 tons of ice and 40,000 tons of snow. Beds are covered with sleeping bags, or guests can provide their own. Lights illuminate the inside of the structure, creating a brilliant blue in some areas. Located right along the Saint Lawrence River, Promenade SamuelDe Champlain is a wellknown park that overlooks the water. Known for its large cycle track that's popular among cyclists and runners, the park features a playground for children, picnic tables, and shorter trails that stretch along the water's edge. Benches are positioned along the shoreline so that guests can sit and look at the bridge that spans over the river as well as some of the boats that navigate the water. Fortifications of Quebec National Historic Site The Fortifications of Quebec National Historic Site surrounds the western end of Old Quebec. As the only surviving example of a fortified colonial settlement north of Mexico, it earned its UNESCO World Heritage Site designation. As you see the impressive stone walls, you will appreciate the craftsmanship and architecture of these defensive structures. Take one of several tours, and travel back through centuries of Quebec’s significant military history. At the same time, you’ll be seeing old Quebec from one of the best vantage points in town. Canyon Sainte-Anne Minutes east of Quebec City in Beaupre, Quebec, Canyon Sainte-Anne is a steep-sided gorge carved by the SainteAnne-du-Nord River. As the river drops 74 meters, it forms a spectacular waterfall higher than Niagara Falls. For thousands of years, the canyon remained a hidden treasure known only by locals. Canyon SainteAnne welcomed its first official visitors in 1973. Enjoy breathtaking scenery while hiking the landscaped trails and suspension bridges, or be thrilled with a ride on the AirCanyon or zipline. Best times to go: Spring, Summer, Fall

Located about 50 kilometers north of Quebec City, Parc National de la Jacques-Cartier is a park that's considered to be one of the natural historical monuments in Canada. Known for being a glacial valley and offering some of the most beautiful views in the country, there are tall mountains that become a brilliant oasis of color during the fall season and the Jacques Cartier River that's calm in most areas while it rushes over rocks in others. MONTMORENCY FALLS

Montmorency Falls, Quebec

Located near Old Quebec, Montmorency Falls is a historic site that features a large waterfall that's about 83 m high. Known for being taller than Niagara Falls, this is an attraction that's quite popular among those who enjoy the wonders of nature. Guests can take a cable car to get to the top of the cliff in order to view the falls from above. There's also a suspended bridge that allows guests to feel some of the power associated with the river itself. Best times to go: Summer, Winter

LA CITADELLE DE QUEBEC Located near the Plains of Abraham, La Citadelle De Québec is a military base that's still active. Known for being one of the residences of the Canadian monarch as well as the governor-general of Canada, you can take a tour of the fortress and the rest of the property to learn about over 300 years of military history that's helped to shape Canada. The museum features exhibits that reflect the involvement of the 22nd Regiment to the many wars the country has seen. Best times to go: Spring, Summer

PONT DE QUEBEC

Located between Levis and Sainte-Foy, the Pont De Québec is a bridge that stretches across the Saint Lawrence River. Known for being a road for cars as well as a pedestrian and rail bridge in one, construction was halted because it failed two times. There were at least 88 people who died during the construction of the bridge. Considered to be a National Historic Site, it could be demolished in the near future due to an abundance of rust and a lack of proper maintenance. Best times to go: Spring, Summer

Located in Old Montreal, one of the historic districts in Quebec, the Notre-Dame Basilica Of Montreal is a place of worship that's still very active for members of the faith and for visitors. Known as one of the most recognizable buildings in the city, it can hold about 8,000 people inside. The church was built in the 17th century with much of the stone that was originally used still in place. While visiting, you can view the beautiful stained glass pieces on the walls as well as images of angels playing their harps. Best times to go: Spring, Winter

CHATEAU FRONTENAC Located in Quebec overlooking the St. Lawrence River, the Chateau Frontenac is a historic hotel popular among tourists. Known for its castle-like design, the hotel is only a short walk from several churches and boutiques. Prominently sitting on top of a hill and overlooking the water, guests can view boats of all sizes as they navigate the river. Built in the 1800s, the hotel was originally developed by railway companies for some of the wealthiest families living in the area at the time. Best times to go: Summer, Fall 44

QUEBEC PARLIAMENT BUILDING The Quebec Parliament Building is located just outside the walls of Old Quebec in the heart of Parliament Hill. Architecture enthusiasts will appreciate the eight-story building inspired by the Louvre Palace in Paris. Twenty-six bronze statues depicting important people in Quebec’s history grace the building’s front facade. It is also home to the 125-member National Assembly of Quebec. Free tours explain the history of Quebec and its governmental institutions. Finish up the day with a sumptuous meal at Le Parlementaire on Parliament Hill. Best times to go: All Year

Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Montreal Botanical Garden is a National Historic Site of Canada. It’s known as one of the world’s most impressive botanical gardens. Make your way through themed gardens while admiring more than 20,000 plant species. As you wander, you’ll see living sculptures — plants that have been shaped through growing methods and trimming. Located near the Outaouais area of Quebec, Gatineau National Park is federally owned and is considered a conservation park. PLAINS OF ABRAHAM Located near Battlefields Park in Quebec City, the Plains Of Abraham is a site where several battles took place in 1759. Known for being one of the most important moments during the Seven Years' War, the area is where the British invasion occurred in Canada. This was where the battle for New France was held with hundreds of soldiers dying on both the French and British sides. Now a peaceful park with benches and pathways, visitors can gather information about what happened in order to gain their freedom. Best times to go: Spring, Summer

THE GRAND GATHERING Located in Sainte-Flavie, The Grand Gathering is an assembly of assorted sculptures. Known for around 120 sculptures that were designed French Canadian Marcel Gagnon created 120 sculptures, each with unique features. They are spread out so that they look similar to people standing in an open field. Some of them are a bit crude in design. Most are made from wood, but there are a few stone pieces that have facial details carved in them so that they stand up better to the water in the area. Best times to go: Spring, Summer, Fall

MOUNT ROYAL PARK Located near Montreal, Mount Royal Park is a popular tourist attraction with activities for guests and residents alike throughout the year. Known for the exceptional snowboarding and skiing conditions in the winter months, the park also features grills and picnic areas for those who want to enjoy time outdoors when the weather is warmer in the spring and summer. There is a restaurant at the park, and you can rent various types of equipment depending on when you visit, such as bikes for riding on some of the trails. LAKE MANICOUAGAN Located in the central area of Quebec, Lake Manicouagan is really a large reservoir. Known as a component of the system that provides power to homes through hydroelectric activity, the crater in the center of the reservoir is about 214 million years old. It's believed that a meteorite struck the area, creating the crater, which was then developed into the lake and reservoir areas. This is one of the largest craters of its kind in Canada and possibly the rest of the world. Best times to go: Spring, Summer

PETIT CHAMPLAIN Located in the center of Vieux in Quebec City, Petit Champlain is a street with some of the most wellknown shops in the area. Known for being among the busiest streets in the city because of the variety of boutiques and restaurants that are available, you can find a little bit of everything while shopping. Many of the stores have items that are made in Quebec or in Canada instead of imports from other countries. While walking on the sidewalks, you can usually see flowers hanging from the doors and windows of the shops. PLACE ROYALE Located in what's considered the Lower Town, Place Royale is a charming square with an old-world design from British and French influences. Known for the cobblestone streets and pathways, you can view one of the oldest churches made of stone in North America, enjoy a tasty treat at Maison Smith, which is a small cafe with outdoor seating, or sit on one of the benches in the center of the square while viewing the cobblestone buildings and some of the statues. PLACE D'YOUVILLE

Located in the central area of Quebec City, Place D'Youville is a town square filled with special events, shopping, and familyfriendly activities. Known for having one of the oldest roads in the city, it sits right next to Rue Saint-Jean. During the winter months, there's an outdoor ice skating rink. A pedestrian bridge stretches over the waterway so that you can see the river below as well as the historic buildings that have a beautiful French design on the exterior. PLACE JACQUESCARTIER Located in the center of Old Montreal, Place JacquesCartier is a square that serves as one of the entry points to the Old Port. Known for having one of the steepest streets in the town, it is a connection between City Hall and the waterfront. Horse-drawn carriages are often seen on the streets while the sidewalks bustle with activity as people stroll from one shop to another. Beautiful flower gardens often line the sidewalks during the spring months while the winter season brings about festive lights and decorations. Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal, Quebec

SAINT JOSEPH'S ORATORY OF MOUNT ROYAL Located on the Westmount Summit in Montreal, Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal was built as a way to worship Saint Joseph. Known as a National Historic Site in Canada, it's one of the largest churches in the country and features a dome that's among the largest designs in the world. About 2,000 people can worship inside at one time. While walking on the grounds, you can view the many flowers that bloom in the spring in the Garden of the Way of the Cross. PORTE SAINT-LOUIS Located near Old Quebec, Porte Saint-Louis serves as an entry point to the city. Known for being one of the only gates that are still standing in an area called the Ramparts, the bridge has an almost cathedral design on each end and is made of lightly colored stones. While at the top of the stairs of the gate, you can view Parliament Hill and rue Saint-Louis. Walkways lead to some of the monuments that commemorate the conferences that Winston Churchill attended in the 1940s. Best times to go: Spring, Summer

It's home to Ottawa, Canada's capital, and is known for Parliament Hill’s Victorian architecture and the National Gallery, featuring Canadian and indigenous art. Toronto, Ontario's capital, is home to the 553 metre high CN Tower, with expansive views from its revolving restaurant, as well as High Park, site of a rare oak savannah habitat.

Ontario is sometimes conceptually divided into two regions, Northern Ontario and Southern Ontario. The great majority of Ontario's population and arable land is in the south. In contrast, the larger, northern part of Ontario is sparsely populated with cold winters and heavy forestation.

Royal Botanical Gardens

Royal Botanical Gardens, Ontario

Located in Hamilton, the Royal Botanical Gardens feature pieces of art designed with flowers that aren't on display in other areas of Canada. Known for being the largest garden of its kind in the country, the attraction has been open for over 80 years. There are over 200 acres of flowers, plants, and sculptures to enjoy. Special exhibits are set up throughout the year, such as the augmented reality series that features pieces of work from local and international artists. Best times to go: Spring, Summer

Point Pelee National Park Point Pelee National Park is located in southern Ontario on the coast of Lake Erie. By day, visitors can relax on the beach, hike or bike on a rustic trail, set out in a canoe or kayak or picnic at one of the pavilions. By night, the remote location provides excellent opportunities for stargazing. The park’s remarkable ecological diversity also makes it a prime spot for exploring a wide range of plants, animals and biomes. Best times to go: All Year

When it comes to camping, hiking, swimming, wildlife watching and more, Ontario’s Bruce Peninsula National Park is difficult to match. The park offers beautiful views of scenic Lake Huron as well as a beachside cave known as the Grotto.
