Introduction The unit-construction BSA twins took over from the A7 and A10 series by having their basic mechanical design clothed in new castings. The opportunity was taken to revise some details, and the new mod-
els, in two capacities, were re-styled to change their lines, but the results were somewhat corpulent. In time, this aspect was reduced with the arrival of more sporting models, especially those for the American market. These greatly extended the range for a year or two, but then it was consolidated into touring, sports and off-road machines. Later still, the job of the super-sports Spitfire was taken over by the Rocket 3 triple, and the range was given a final revamp for 1971. By then, the company was in deep water financially so the end came soon.
Behind, however, was
left a legacy of good basic twins that found further favour in the classic bike revival of the 1980s. By then, solutions to their technical problems were known, tested and available, so the models became some of the more popular restoration projects
