INTRODUCTION TO WINDOWS 11 More than one billion people use Windows to connect, learn, play, and work today. Windows 11 improves crucial features like security and dependability while bringing you nearer to the people and things you care about. Additionally, it stimulates creativity and increases productivity. This book contains information on the planned, phased release of Windows 11, as well as instructions on how to get the upgrade once your device is ready.

Overview of Windows We are all aware that Windows has one of the top-rated and most widely used operating systems available today. Microsoft's Windows operating system has ruled the personal computer market globally for more than 35 years, starting with the release of Windows 1.0 in 1985. Despite having an excessively high market share, Windows OS did not exactly have an easy time getting there.

Recognizing Windows The OS, a piece of software required to run a computer, is tasked with managing and controlling the entire device. A computer is just a piece of metal without an OS. The operating system is what allows computers to function. The Windows operating system is made by the American business Microsoft Corporation. The company was founded in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen, and Windows debuted in 1985. It is a worldwide company that also produces a wide range of products, such as the web browser "Internet Explorer," the office tool "Microsoft Office," and the Xbox game system for home use (Microsoft Edge).

Windows operating system history timeline You have probably used Windows OS for as long as you can remember if you are in your 20s or 30s. Since 1985, it has been in existence. From this point on, let's look more closely at the development of Windows OS version by version. Here is a list of Windows OS versions for personal computers. Windows has undergone several iterations, starting with Windows 1.0, the first for personal computers, and ending with Windows 10, the most recent.

Windows 1.0 (1995)

The initial version of Windows was released in June 1985. (English version). The Japanese translation became available in 1987. The first version of Windows was operated on DOS. The operating systems used to control drives like hard disks and floppy disks are referred to as disk operating systems, or DOS. I don't know well is OK if you consider it to be an outdated operating system. Windows 1.0 was a significant issue even before it was formally introduced, in part due to promoting in TV commercials. However, because it was only the first stage, neither the standing nor the performance were particularly strong. Windows 2.0 (1987)

In September 1987, Windows 2.0 was released, two years after Windows 1.0. (1988 for the Japanese version). Additionally, it works in DOS. The primary change from a tile-based to an overlapping screen in Windows 1.0. It is now possible to display many windows (screens) on top of one another, which is something that is regularly done.

Functional updates have also improved processing performance and resolved the slow operation problem with Windows 1.0. Windows 3.0 (1990)

Windows 3.0, which made its English and Japanese debuts in May 1990 and 1991, also supports Dos. Windows 3.0 gained appeal as a more practical Windows OS in the US thanks to the addition of the following features. ● Multitask multiple MS-DOS applications ● Introduction of program manager and file manager ● Network functions Windows 3.1 (1992) In April 1992 (Japanese version: 1993), Windows 3.1 was released. Also, utility became more and stability rose. The extension of the Windows OS from the corporate market to the entertainment market is credited to these advancements.

Windows NT3.1-4.0

The "Windows NT" series is where the current Windows OS got its start. In 1994, 1995, and 1996, respectively, "Windows NT 3.1," "Windows NT 3.5," and "Windows NT 4.0" were all made available. The NT series was first installed in devices for corporations, but as soon as its outstanding stability gained recognition, it began to be used in products for everyone. Windows 1995 (1995)

By taking over and improving the functionality of Windows 3.1, the 1995 release of Windows 95, a Windows 9x operating system, was made possible.

The Start button, menus, taskbar, and maximizing/minimizing windows were among the helpful features that were first introduced with Windows 95 and are still in use today. In the first four days of its release, Windows 95 sold 4 million computers, outperforming preceding versions in terms of functionality and usability. Windows 1998 (1998)

When Windows 98 was released in 1998, it substantially enhanced Windows 95 for home users. It has improved performance overall and supports USB, DVD, and multimonitor setups in addition to DirectX 5.0. Windows 2000 (2000)

Windows 2000 is an operating system that is based on the very reliable and powerful Windows NT 4.0. Because it was initially intended for the Windows NT series and Windows 9x series to be merged, the Windows 9x series user interface was also implemented.

The decision that Windows ME, which will be detailed next, was not for individual users led to its development. Windows ME (2000)

The term "Millennium Edition" (ME) is used. Windows 2000 was introduced fast because it was positioned as a business operating system. Windows ME had a lot of issues and regularly crashed in order to quickly reach multifunctionality. Even though it had a pretty name like Millennium, the OS was determined to be unreliable and had a low grade. Windows XP (2001)

Windows Vista (2007)

Following the success of Windows XP, Windows Vista was developed over a five-year period and released in 2007. In addition to the addition of various new features, the screen's design has been significantly changed. While we were able to give clients a different impression of Windows than they had with earlier iterations, the operating system itself underwent changes and was labeled as "difficult to use." Furthermore, it is asserted that the operation has slowed as a result of the quick advancement of specifications, such as the creation of security measures and the updating of the GUI, which is the root of the negative reputation. Windows 7 (2009)

2009 saw the launch of Windows 7. It is an operating system that has been

improved over Windows Vista, which has failed, and has been judged to be "this is what it should be." However, according to a survey by Net Applications, it is still a popular operating system with a share of 20.93% as of October 2020. Extended support expired on January 14, 2020 (January 15, 2020 in Japan time). Windows 8 (2012)

In 2012, as smartphones and tablets became more popular, Microsoft built and released Windows 8. Although it seems that many users felt the old version was preferable owing to its distinctive look, which included doing away with the start button, we worked on making it touch screen friendly with tablet terminals. By the way, the start button and start screen have been reinstated in Windows 8.1, a subsequent upgrade. Windows 10

The new concept of "Windows as a Service (WaaS)" was used to produce the operating system known as Windows 10.

By implementing a rolling release strategy, future upgrades, such as feature additions and improvements, will be freely accessible through Windows Update. Although Windows 10 will continue to receive updates, there won't be any major updates like there used to be. In relation to this, Microsoft developer and evangelist Jerry Nixon said, "Windows 10 is the last iteration of Windows." The start menu has been functionally added back after being deleted in Windows 8. Modern features were present, such as the "Cortana" voice recognition functionality. And now, Windows 11

In October 2021, Microsoft unveiled Windows 11, the successor to Windows 10. The entire user interface now has a rounded glass appearance. Additionally, multitasking is now easier thanks to the "snap function" that aligns windows. The user can view the data they need on the screen thanks to the "widget function" as well.

Chapter 1 Beginning with Windows 11 Examining the screen

Turn on a Windows 11 computer for the first time after buying or initializing it. Your computer will function and the desktop screen will finally display once the first setup is finished. Your Windows 11 computer's basic setup hasn't been finished since you already finished it. Unquestionably, before utilizing your computer, you should set up a few things. One of the initial settings is the one chosen as soon as the power is turned on. Make a "account" during installation so you may access the computer (using the PC). There are two different kinds of accounts that can be made. You can sign in with either a "local account" or a "Microsoft account." Whichever one you choose to sign in with during initial setup impacts the operation process. Please take note: Windows 11 Home needs an internet connection and can be initially set up "with a Microsoft account alone." Initial configurations cannot be made with a local account or when it is unable to connect to the Internet. Keep in mind that you can create a local account after initial setup using a

Microsoft account. Remember that there are things to keep in mind if you are just purchasing a new computer system and you want to personally install and set up the new OS. The fresh OS installation is only the initial action. To configure and set up Windows 11 as desired after installation, a myriad of setup pages must be explored. In the event of any issues, you would also be shown these setup pages if you reset your machine to reinstall Windows 11. Despite a few surprises, the fundamental setup process is similar to that of Windows 10. Here's how to modify Windows 11 during setup. The Windows 11 - ISO file must first be purchased from Microsoft or from a market place where they sell software, and then it must be installed. Then you install Windows 11 using your preferred technique, whether it be on a dedicated PC, a dual-boot system, or a virtual machine. Following the onscreen instructions to install the OS will cause the setup panels to appear. Prior to asking for the keyboard layout or input method, your country or region will be prompted. After confirming the right responses, click "Yes."

Choosing the desired keyboard layout Ø You are prompted to add a second keyboard layout on the following screen. Click Add layout and select the desired keyboard layout if you wish to add a different language to Windows 11 with a different keyboard layout. Ø If not, click Skip. Ø After that, Windows looks for any new updates. Ø Click Accept after reading the license agreement. Ø The next step is to name your Windows 11 PC, and Microsoft provides some instructions and prerequisites. The name cannot begin with a number or exceed 15 characters in length. Spaces and some special characters are not permitted.

Naming the system

Windows then checks for any fresh updates. After reading the licensing agreement, click Accept. The next step is to give your Windows 11 computer a name, and Microsoft offers certain guidelines and requirements. The name cannot contain a number at the start or have more than 15 characters. Not allowed are spaces and a few special characters. If you only intend to install Windows 11 on a single computer or location, you can choose a generic name or give it a special name, such as Victor-PC MyWindows11 or MyWin11Preview. If you intend to install it on many computers or places, give it a more distinguishing name that includes the PC brand or model, such as Win11LenovoT14 or SoftaxyWindows11HP. Once the name has been input, press "Next."

Selecting the account type Select Set up for personal use when installing Windows 11 on your home computer and choosing whether to use a Microsoft account or a local account. If you want to use your business or school account while installing Windows 11 on a computer for your business or school, select Set up for work or school. Once you have decided, press "Next." If you intend to use this PC for personal usage, you will next need to provide your Microsoft account's email address. For Windows 11 Home, a local account is no longer supported [without some significant workarounds (Opens in a new window)], although it is still usable with Windows 11 Pro and other editions.

Take a look at the Start Menu

The new Windows 11 menu bar is intended to increase user productivity. However, it has a significantly different design from Windows 10 in every way. The menu is located elsewhere on the desktop and displays a variety of programs that you might not use frequently. It can take some time to get acclimated to the enhancements in Windows 11, therefore you need an easily accessible menu. By tinkering with your computer's settings, you can enable the classic Start menu and get access to the programs you use the most. The new Windows 11 Start menu can be visually separated from the wellknown Windows 10 Start menu. The "All Apps" icon, which is located above your pinned apps in the menu, will take you to other programs. The suggested apps and commonly used apps sections are in the menu's lower section. By pressing three different buttons, users of earlier versions of Windows can restart, switch off, and put their device to sleep. However, all of these choices are now accessible from a single power button. The Start menu in Windows 11 has a modern, high-tech appearance. It was made to make it easier for you to access your applications, which will enhance the functionality of your PC.

Start Menu customization in Windows 11 When you enable the classic menu, it won't look precisely the same as it does now. Despite the same functionality being on the interface, certain programs might be hidden. Fortunately, you can change the menu's structure to provide yourself faster access to important programs.

You can browse it and choose an app to launch.

Clicking on the “All Apps option”

How to Install an App on Windows 11 Putting programs on your Windows 11 computer You are able to perform some truly wonderful things with your computer. Video streaming, sophisticated computer games, and digital photo editing are all made possible by many kinds of software. You can use your computer for even more things thanks to the new software apps that developers are constantly producing.

Installation via CD-ROM Purchasing a CD-ROM was the most typical method of obtaining new software from the mid-1990s to the late 2000s. The computer would then

guide you through the installation after you inserted the disc. Nowadays, this approach is no longer used in practically all software. For this reason, a CD-ROM is no longer a common feature of modern computers. But if you must install software via a CD-ROM, just put the disc in your computer and follow the on-screen directions. Installing software downloaded from the Internet Today, downloading new software through the Internet is the most popular method. Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop, among others, may now be bought and downloaded directly to your computer. This method also works to install free applications. For instance, you could go to this website and click the Download button if you wanted to install the Google Chrome web browser. Your computer will save the installation file in.exe format. This is the default extension for installation files on Windows systems, and it is pronounced dot e-x-e. The procedures listed below can be used to install an application from an.exe file. 1. Find and download an.exe file first.

2. Find the.exe file and double-click it. (You may typically find it in your Downloads folder.)

3. There will be a dialog box. Install the software by adhering to the directions.

Installing the software is planned. The program is now accessible from the Start menu.

Tips on selecting software The easiest way to find new software, in our opinion, is to conduct a Web search. If you wanted a way to edit some personal photos on your computer, you could, for example, search Google for free photoediting software. If you're unsure of the kind of software you need, try defining the tasks you want to complete. For

instance, you may look for something like free calendar organizer software if you want a means to make to-do lists and arrange your appointments.

How to switch between running Software on Windows 11 To switch between open application windows, Windows users often click on the application's icon or open a window from the taskbar. In Windows 11, navigating between application windows is much quicker when using keyboard shortcuts. Additionally, this technique is still quite useful even if you don't have a mouse attached. Go To The Following Window That Opens ● To move to the following window, use "(Ctrl + Esc)" on the keyboard. ● To return to the previous window, press the keyboard shortcuts "(Shift + Ctrl + Esc)" simultaneously.

How to Arrange running Apps on Windows 11 Many new features have been added to Windows 11, including useful multitasking enhancements. Snap layouts may now be used to swiftly organize several windows on your desktop. The new choices outperform the traditional Alt/Tab shortcut. We'll demonstrate how to use and personalize this new feature in this brief guide.

Improve Your Productivity with Snap Windows in Windows 11 To change your snap layouts, go to Settings, choose System, and then scroll down to Multitasking.

Enable the Snap windows option if you want your windows to resize and arrange themselves automatically on your screen. You can further modify the settings for your snap layout by using the drop-down menu.

You can easily turn off the snap layout system if you don't really like it. By placing your cursor over the maximize icon, you can easily access snap layouts. Then decide which grid arrangement to utilize. Choose the location where you want your active app to be.

There Will Be an Adjustment Period The new snap layout method could require some time to get used to. However, once you get the hang of it, snap windows let you actively concentrate on the main task at hand while monitoring a variety of background activities. For instance, you may divide the screen in half and work on a project while keeping an eye on the most recent news. Snap layouts are excellent for larger screens or multiple monitor setups. You actually have six different grid configuration options on larger monitors. There are just four grid options for smaller displays. If you open more than

three windows at once on a 13-inch laptop, it could feel a little crowded.

Conclusion You can simultaneously display many windows on your desktop thanks to Windows 11's new snap window mechanism. Go to Settings, choose System, and then scroll down to Multitasking to change snap layouts. On large televisions, this productivity function is useful.

Configure Windows to Work with Multiple Monitors

If you spend a lot of time on your computer, splitting your effort across two or more screens can greatly increase your productivity and multitasking abilities. A multi-monitor setup, however, involves more than just connecting the screens with cables. Thanks to a few specialized features, Windows 11 makes the procedure considerably simpler and more pleasurable. In the sections that follow, we'll go over how to connect several monitors to the Windows 11 operating system and then alter the configuration to better fit your requirements. To use the multiple monitor configuration, though, your PC will need to have a respectable level of processing power. Usually, mid-range PCs with a Core i5 CPU or more should be able to do the task. Let's examine how to use several displays and connect to them on Windows 11.

Install several monitors To begin, you must connect your second monitor to your primary display, choose the primary display, and decide how you wish to watch the secondary display. All of these points have been covered in depth below: 1. Attach the second display. Make sure you have the right kind of connection for the second monitor. 2. Check to see if your computer can handle VGA or HDMI. Depending on your needs, a splitter can be necessary.

3. Turn on the monitor once the connections are connected. Now, if Windows 11 discovers the new monitor, it will alert you and the second monitor will by default mirror your primary display. If it does not recognize it automatically, take the following actions: Open Windows Settings and choose System in the left-hand menu. On the window's right side, select Display.

You ought to be able to see the missing monitor at this point. If you are still unable to, we advise you to make sure the wires you are using are functioning properly. Secondly: - Select the Main Display Choose the primary display once the second monitor has connected properly.

Your main workstation will serve as the primary display, on which Windows will show all the settings. When you connect a second monitor to your computer, Windows automatically chooses the first one as the main display. You can, however, alter this setting to suit your needs. To select a primary display, adhere to following steps: ● Open Windows Settings and choose System in the left-hand menu. ● On the window's right side, select Display. ● Choose your chosen display and choose the "Make this my main display" checkbox.

I'm done now. You should now make your preferred display the main display. Thirdly, select the viewing mode. For use with multiple monitors, Windows 11 provides the following 4 viewing modes: Ø Only your primary display will be used, which is the PC screen. Ø Display: Your primary display's display will be mirrored on the secondary screen. Ø Extend - The second screen will be an extension of the first screen, making it ideal for situations where you need a larger-than-normal screen for work. Ø The only screen that will be used is your secondary screen.

Press the Win + P keys simultaneously to open the Project feature and select a viewing mode. Just choose your chosen mode from the widget that is floating. As an alternative, Windows 11 settings allow you to select a viewing mode. If you want to make the modifications through Settings, adhere to these steps: ● Open Windows Settings and choose System in the left-hand menu. ● On the window's right side, select Display. ● Expand the drop-down menu on the bottom right after selecting the display that you want to alter. Select your top choice from the available options.

There you have it, then. It's time to use your very own multi-monitor setup!

Modify the Setup for Multiple Monitors The secondary displays are now operational, and you can now alter the configuration by fiddling with the background settings, modifying the resolution, and turning on cutting-edge features like HDR. 1. Choose a display resolution first. Follow these instructions to adjust the display resolution if you're not happy with any of the displays' resolution: ● Open Display Settings, then choose the monitor you want to modify. ● Select your desired resolution by expanding the drop-down selection for Display resolution under Scale & layout.

2. Turn on HDR Everything on your display appears brighter, clearer, and more colorful when HDR is enabled. The conventional dynamic range, or classic display, often only reveals the finer features in the screen's darker or brighter regions. With HDR, it's also possible to see the nuances between the extreme zones. Simply put, it gives things a more realistic appearance. It is worthwhile to test out this feature if your device supports it. Here's how to enable HDR in a configuration with several monitors: Ø Utilize Display settings by doing the actions listed above. Ø For this function, pick your favorite monitor and enable the Use HDR toggle under Brightness & color.

Customize the Taskbar on Windows 11 Only the registry or the settings app can be used to adjust the position of the taskbar in Windows 11. Let's look at how to change the Windows 11 taskbar corner overflow and notification area. You can display or conceal the app notification icons in the taskbar notification area.

Take away the stock icons The unpin feature cannot be used to remove some of the taskbar's default icons. You can get rid of the other icons on the taskbar in addition to the Start menu. Click the Taskbar settings option by performing a right-click on the taskbar.

All of the taskbar's default items are listed here at the top with a toggle button next to them. To remove things from the taskbar, simply toggle off the ones you don't want to see.

Shift the taskbar's icons to the left I relocated the taskbar icons to the left despite not minding that they were in the middle because of the Start menu. I have to point the mouse in the center to select the Start menu. To save some focus, I can simply move the mouse in the bottom-left direction in the far-left corner, and it will function. Simply access the taskbar settings as we did before if you also want to relocate the taskbar icons to the left. Navigate to the Taskbar Behaviors area by scrolling down. Next, choose Left from the Taskbar alignment menu.

The taskbar's icons Unfortunately, Windows 11 doesn't support the drag-and-drop method of pinning icons to the taskbar if you find it to be convenient. You will currently need to pin the application to the taskbar using one of the other methods. The simplest method would be to use Windows Search to find the application, right-click it, and then choose Pin to taskbar.

When using Windows Explorer, you must first right-click the app icon and choose Show more before you can choose to Pin to Taskbar.

Make taskbar auto-hide active

The auto-hide feature is still available in Windows 11 and can be found in the taskbar settings. Open the Taskbar Behaviors area by scrolling down in the taskbar settings. Here, selects the option to automatically conceal the taskbar by checking the box next to it. The taskbar will now be hidden unless you move the mouse pointer over the region where the taskbar is located.

Transparency the taskbar in Windows 11 The taskbar can also be made to appear translucent and change color in accordance with the background. Here's how to do it from the Windows 11 settings: Select Settings from the Start menu by clicking on it. Click Colors after choosing Personalization in the left panel here.

The taskbar will become transparent as soon as you enable the Transparency effects option.

Display/hide system tray icons Using the taskbar, you could conveniently hide/show system tray icons in earlier versions of Windows. The system tray is now known as Taskbar corner overflow in Windows 11, and you must control it through the taskbar settings. Taskbar corner overflow has its own section in the taskbar settings. Any app that can display its icon in the Taskbar corner overflow can be opened by clicking on it. Apps must be separately turned on or off in order for their icons to be hidden or shown in the taskbar's right corner.

Disabling Show Desktop on the taskbar is a good idea. In Windows 11, the Show Desktop button on the taskbar is significantly smaller and doesn't display the desktop when the mouse pointer is over it. You can disable it if you still don't want to use it and think it's taking up unnecessary space on your taskbar. Go to Taskbar Settings and select the Behaviors option. Leave this box unchecked. When you select to show the desktop from the taskbar's outside corner, the button will vanish.

Change the color of the taskbar The taskbar can also have custom colors that are independent of your theme's color scheme. This is how you do it: Select the Colors option under Personalization in the left side of the Windows 11 settings.

Here, choose Dark in the section titled "Choose Your Default Windows Mode" and Custom in the part titled "Choose Your Mode."

Scroll down and turn on the option for Start and taskbar accent color now.

Then select any color from the list below as your taskbar color by setting the Accent color option to Manual. In order to select a custom color, you may also open the color wheel by selecting the Custom colors option.

The taskbar should be elevated. The taskbar could previously be moved to the top, left, or right side of the screen, but Windows 11 has made it impossible to do so. In Windows 11, you will need to modify the Windows Registry if you still wish to shift the taskbar. Even then, since it's not an approved workaround, there is no assurance that the taskbar will function as intended. Moving the taskbar to the left or right entirely ruins it, based on my observations and what other users have said. Moving it to the top is therefore your only choice. The Start menu is placed slightly to the left of the button even at the top. Therefore, before completing the instructions below, be aware that the taskbar might no longer function as intended as a result of the changes.

Although Windows 11's widgets are great, they need some help to show up on the desktop.

Here's how to personalize widgets in Windows 11 so you can see the things you use the most quickly. In Windows 11, you can see the widgets board by pressing Win + W. By placing your cursor on the Widgets button on the Taskbar's left side, you may accomplish the same task. You can add or remove widgets from the board, as well as edit and organize them however you like, but you cannot add widgets to your desktop. The Widgets panel in Windows 11 will be familiar to you if you enjoyed the News and Interests panel in Windows 10. Use it to quickly browse the web, read the most recent news, check the weather, view photographs, or get sports updates (or swipe of your finger). Although Microsoft services serve as the main source of power for the widgets, it is also intended to include widgets from other companies and publishing partners. You will begin using Windows 11 with a particular configuration, but you can change it to suit your preferences.

Enable Widget Panel You may reach the widget panel by clicking the taskbar icon for widgets, which looks like two rectangles. On a touch-screen device, swipe from the left side of the screen to reveal the panel. From here, you can access a Bing-powered web search bar as well as a number of Microsoft-powered

widgets. For instance, Microsoft "To Do" support the To-Do widget while Outlook only supports the Calendar widget.

Scroll down to get a carefully chosen list of news stories that correspond to your Microsoft news choices.

Widget Size Modification To alter the size of a widget, click the ellipsis button inside of it. To create a larger widget that shows more information or a smaller widget that scales down what is seen at a glance, choose from small, medium, and large sizes.

Personalize Widgets If you click the ellipsis button and choose Customize widget from the menu, you can also adjust some widgets' extra settings. For instance, you can update your location in the Weather and Traffic widgets, follow teams in Sports, and pin stock listings in Watchlist.

Shift Widgets Drag your widgets to new positions to reorganize them. Move the mouse

pointer over a widget's top part until a hand appears in place of the cursor. The surrounding widgets should reposition themselves to accommodate the change once you grab and drag the window to the new location.

Removing or Adding Widgets Click the profile icon in the top-right corner of the panel to add additional widgets (or click the Add widgets button under the currently pinned widgets). The widgets mentioned can then be clicked to be added to the panel. By clicking a pinned widget's ellipsis button and selecting Remove widget from the menu, you can remove it.

News Feed settings You have a few options for changing your news feed. Clicking the X button will conceal any stories you don't wish to see. Windows will ask you why, giving you the option to modify your interests, conceal the publisher, submit a bug complaint, or reverse the action. To request to see more or less news items similar to the current one, click the ellipsis button next to the relevant

news item. You can specify your interests in more detail if you choose the latter.

Control your interests Interests on MSN At the bottom of the window, under Manage your news and interests, click the profile symbol to manage your interests (or select Manage interests from the ellipsis window of a specific article). This will launch your web browser and bring up Microsoft News' My Interests page. You can choose the subjects you're interested in from a variety of categories, including News, Entertainment, Sports, Shopping, and more. The list of publishers you have hidden or followed can also be altered.

Publishers of your News Feed Within the My Interests section of the Microsoft News website, you may instantly modify your news feed. To access a list of publishers, click the Tune your feed link at the bottom of the sidebar. Choose the publications you want to see moving ahead in your news feed by clicking on them as you scroll through the various displays.

The widget will now show up on your desktop, and if you're done, you may disable Windows 11's widgets.

You have to let them know where to get the information so that they can display it, which is why. Simply click the gear icon to enter Settings, hover over them, and add the location, website, folder, or other data they require.

Activating "Widgets Always on Top" Mode Click Settings in the Widget Launcher app's bottom left corner if you want the widgets to always be visible, regardless of the window you're in. After that, switch on the Widgets Always on Top toggle.

Chapter 3 SURFING THE WEB

The sweet part of working with a system is connecting to the internet and windows 11 has nice graphics that makes internet surfing amazing.

How to open a Web Page on Windows 11 using Internet Explorer 1. Open Edge and go to Settings. To get websites that require Internet Explorer to work in Edge on Windows 11, first open Edge and go to the 3-dot menu on the far right of the top menu bar. Select Settings near the bottom.

2. Go to the Default Browser tab and click Allow websites to reload in Internet Explorer mode. Change default to allow

3. Allow IE to Reload Websites To get sites that require IE to work in Edge, you have two options. First, you can set "Allow websites to reload in Internet Explorer mode" to "Default" or "Allowed" (the only other option is "Don't allow", which is clearly undesirable).

4. Choose how and when websites load in IE mode The default setting gives you the option to open Edge in his IE mode if you have opened the page in that mode before. (This doesn't mean that IE mode is the default, it's just Edge's default.) If you select Allow, select Reload in Internet Explorer mode from the Settings menu, for example, or Right-click the tab and then select Open Link in New Tab in Internet Explorer mode. If you select Allow, you will

need to restart your browser.

Alternatively, you can add a list of particular websites to Internet Explorer mode. Not just the address and domain, but also "https://" are required. 5. Open all pages that require IE Please open the old website! When I do this, I get a mode notification with a toggle that forces the site to always use his IE mode. There's also a bar at the top of the page that recommends using Edge, which is more modern and secure, and a button to navigate there when you're done browsing the site. This requires IE, and you'll see the good old 'e' logo just to the left of the web address bar.

How to open the web page in a Tab on windows 11

Opening a web page in a new tab in Windows 11 allows users to open multiple tabs in the same Windows File Explorer window. This allows users to open multiple File Explorer windows and perform operations such as copy and paste between two folders. Similar to the multiple tab options in Microsoft Edge and Chrome, many features and use cases are available with File Explorer tabs. This section provides a quick overview of Windows 11 web pages in the New Tab experience.

Use keyboard shortcuts to open new tabs in File Explorer The first method is when File Explorer (Win+E) is open, press Ctrl+T to open a new tab.

Open a new tab in File Explorer from the title bar Alternatively, when File Explorer (Win+E) is open, click/tap the Add New Tab (+) button in the title bar. (See screenshot below).

Close web page tabs from title bar tabs With a web page open, click or tap the Close Tab button (X) on the tab you want to close in the title bar. (see screenshot below).

Moving web page tabs (drag and drop) Let's see if we can easily move or rearrange tabs from left to right and right to left. According to my tests, you can move tabs on web pages. You can drag and drop tabs from one position to another and even to a new window.

Navigating the Web Page on WIndows 11

If you install a new browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla's Firefox, the app will set it as your default and prompt you to open a web page. Internet Explorer becomes the default browser. Now let's see how to navigate web pages in Windows 11.

Using Microsoft Edge to view the web To use Microsoft Edge to view a webpage whose web address you know, enter its URL in the address bar of the toolbar at the top of the current tab in the Microsoft Edge app on Windows 11. Then press the "Enter" key on your keyboard. Alternatively, you can select the website or search results you want to see from the drop-down list of results that appears when you start typing in the address bar.

A web page of search results appears, with search result hyperlinks to web pages related to the search term you entered. You can click these hyperlinks to view related web pages. These webpages may open in the same tab or in a new tab, depending on your default search provider's settings for opening links. To move forward and backward through web pages you've visited within a tab in Microsoft Edge, click the Click to Back and Click to Forward buttons at the far left of the toolbar. Click the Refresh button on the toolbar to refresh the current web page of the tab. To view your home page in Microsoft Edge, click the Home button on the toolbar.

How to use Windows 11 to find text on a page It might be difficult to find a certain item on a lengthy or complicated web page, similar to looking for a needle in a haystack. Fortunately, finding something within a page is simple when using almost universal keyboard shortcuts.

Method is as follows: To quickly search within a web page ("find within page"), first open the page you want to search in your favorite web browser. Press Ctrl+F (on a Windows PC, Chromebook, or Linux system) or Cmd+F (on a Mac) on your keyboard. The "F" stands for "search" and works in any browser. If you're using Google Chrome, you'll see a search bubble in the upper right corner of the window.

If you're using Microsoft Edge, you'll see a search bar in the top left corner of the window.

If you're using Mozilla Firefox, you'll see a search bar in the lower left corner of the window.

When the search bar appears, click the text entry field and enter a word or phrase. The browser highlights all occurrences of the search query on the page and allows you to scroll up and down the page using the arrows next to the search bar. Very convenient!

Search for text using keyboard shortcuts Once you know your search shortcuts, you can apply them to many other programs and operating systems, not just web browsers. For example, on Windows, Ctrl+F opens a search window in Notepad and moves focus to the Fdile Explorer search bar. Works in Office too. On Mac, you can use Comman + F to search in Finder and apps like Apple Music and Photos. NOTE: Try it with almost any app you use. May be supported. This is another handy tip to have in your general purpose computer tools bag.

How can I check my computer browser's recent

history? When looking at the websites you visit on your Windows 10 PC, the easiest way to see your browsing history is to press the Ctrl and H keys on your keyboard at the same time. But your browsing history isn't the only activity recorded in Windows. Type "recently" in the Run dialog box, or go to Settings > Privacy > Activity history > Manage my Microsoft account to see recently opened files. You can also display a list. Use activity data to see all activity associated with your account. Learn how to see the websites, files, and account options accessed on your Windows PC. To see your computer's current history, you need to go to the file itself, starting with your web browser's history. But be aware that your browsing history may be modified or deleted, and your Windows files may be hidden. 1. To open your browsing history: ● Use Ctrl+H in Windows browsers such as Microsoft Edge, Firefox, and Opera. ● In Google Chrome, use Ctrl+H or go to My Google Activity. ● For Apple Safari, use Command + Y. This command opens a window with a list of displayed websites. The most recent pages are displayed first. This can also be found in the menu of all browsers under history. 2. Use the search bar at the top of the history window to find a specific website you may be looking for.

3. To check for files that may have been downloaded:

● Press Ctrl+J in any Windows browser. ● For Apple Safari, press Command + Option + L. ● It also has a search feature to help you find previous downloads. 4. After checking the browser, examine any files or programs that may have been accessed. For Windows: Open File Manager > Quick Access or sign in to your Microsoft account and scroll down to Apps & Services Activity. For Mac: v Click the Apple menu to see a quick list of recently used files, drives, and servers. For a longer list, you can open the Finder app by pressing Command + Option + Space or by clicking on the desktop and choosing File > New Finder Window. v In Finder, select View > Show View Options > Sort By > Date Modified. This will display all files accessed, most recent first. If your computer has multiple drives, check each drive to see if there are any changes.

Is it possible to see recent activity on my computer? Normally you should be able to view the current history of your computer. However, if you don't find what you're looking for, there could be several reasons. History is not recorded when using a private mode such as Chrome's Incognito or Edge's InPrivate. Data may be deleted as part of scheduled maintenance or due to browser issues. Additionally, browsers can be configured to automatically delete browsing history. Windows privacy settings can be changed, so certain actions may not be documented. Some third-party apps such as Tools such as Game Tools may only appear in File Explorer or Finder and may not show that they have been used or what has been done with them. These apps may have separate histories that you can see when you open them.

Used and pre-owned equipment is often stripped of identification data and other materials to protect previous owners and to provide newcomers with a "clean" unit. On Mac, users can easily clear the Recent Activity menu (there is a Clear menu option at the bottom of the menu itself).

How to clear search history and delete recent activity in Windows 11 Search history in Windows 11 keeps track of your recent searches. This eliminates manual work and helps you get to work instantly with minimal effort. However, it creates a lot of shortcuts to unnecessary files and tasks for the day. Sharing a website on Windows 11

You might want to share a web page you're viewing in Microsoft Edge with your contacts or on social media. The "legacy Edge" version included a "share" capability, just as the more recent Chromiumbased versions.

Here's how to share a webpage with your email contacts or social media followers directly from your browser using Microsoft Edge.

Share a webpage from Microsoft Edge Launch Edge and go to the site you want to share. Click the Settings and more (three dots) button on the page, then click Share on the menu.

This will open the Share menu where you can choose the method you want to use to share your page. This includes apps such as email and other social media apps you have installed, such as Twitter and Facebook.

Select the app you want to use. The example below uses the Mail app. Open your email app to compose a message. If you have multiple accounts set up, click the account you want to use. You can then select one or more of her contacts to share the page with. Contains links to articles and their previews.

How to use Windows 11 to search for websites Microsoft made no mention of the search engine to utilize, the browser the widget would open to display results, or whether users would have a choice. For a long time, Microsoft has actively marketed search engines and web browsers to Windows consumers.

So it's no surprise that Bing results open in Edge by default.

From then on, you can enter the URL of your favorite search engine like Google, Yahoo, etc. into the search bar. However, you can search anything directly in the standard Microsoft Edge search bar. And once you are connected to the internet the result of your search will show.

How to download a file on Windows 11 There are many types of files that can be downloaded from the internet, such as documents, images, videos, apps, extensions, browser toolbars, etc. After selecting a file to download, Internet Explorer will ask what to do with the

file. Depending on the type of file you're downloading, you can do the following: ● Open the file to view it, but do not save it to your PC. ● Save the file to the default download location on your PC. After Internet Explorer has performed a security scan and the file has finished downloading, you can open the file or the folder where the file is stored or view it in a download manager. ● Save to a different filename, type, or download location on your PC. ● Run apps, extensions, or other file types. After Internet Explorer performs a security scan, the file will be opened and run on your PC. ● Cancel the download and return to web surfing. ● You can also save small files such as individual images to your PC. ● Right-click the image, link, or file you want to save and select Save Image or Save Target As.

Download Manager keeps track of images, documents, and other files downloaded from the Internet. Downloaded files are automatically saved in the Downloads folder. This folder is usually located on the drive where Windows is installed (e.g. C:\Users\your name\downloads). You can move your downloads from your Downloads folder to other locations on your PC at any time. To view downloaded files while using Internet Explorer, open Internet Explorer, select the Tools button, and then select View Downloads. You can see what you download from the web, where those items are stored on your PC, and choose what action to take on the download. Change the default download folder on your PC Open Internet Explorer, select the Tools button, then select View Downloads. In the View Downloads dialog box, select the bottom left option. Select Browse to select a different default download location, and select OK when finished.

Why some files won't open in Internet Explorer Internet Explorer uses add-ons such as Adobe Reader to display some files in your browser. If you can't open the files that the add-on requires, you may be using an older version of the add-on that needs updating.

About downloads and security warnings When you download a file, Internet Explorer looks for evidence that the download is malicious or potentially harmful to your PC. If Internet Explorer identifies a download as suspicious, you'll be notified so you can decide whether to save, run, or open the file. Not all warned files are malicious, but it's important to make sure that the website you're downloading from is trustworthy and that you really want to download the file. If you see a security warning that the publisher of this program could not be verified, it means that Internet Explorer does not recognize the website or organization requesting the file download. Before saving or opening a download, make sure you know and trust the publisher. Downloading files from the Internet is always risky. Here are some precautions you can take to protect your PC while downloading files. ● Install and use an antivirus program. ● Download files only from trusted websites. ● If the file has a digital signature, make sure the signature is valid and the file is from a trusted location. To view the digital signature, select the publisher's link in the security warning dialog that opens when you download the file for the first time.

Chapter 4 Sending and Receiving E-Mail Launch the Mail App Email application is one of the essential applications that users need most in their working system. It is used to receive and send messages tentatively. Below is the step-by-step guide on how to start the application. Firstly, you need to add a new account. What I mean by a new account is an email account. Mind you, you can use an existing account i.e. add an existing account, but in this guide we are going to see how to add a fresh new account.

Add a new email account Select Start, type email, and select Apps from the results.

When you open the Mail app for the first time, you'll see a welcome screen.

Select Add Account to begin. If you're already using the Mail app, select the Settings icon at the bottom of the left navigation, then select Manage Accounts. Remarks: On your phone or tablet, tap the three dots at the bottom of the page to access Settings. Select Add Account. Select the type of account to add. Remarks: You may need to scroll down the Add Account dialog to see all options. If you choose Google, you'll need to sign in to your Google account and, if you've enabled this security feature, enter your two-factor authentication code to allow Windows to access your information. Select Allow and the account will be created. If you choose to use a different email account, you must follow the special instructions under "Special Instructions for Other Accounts" below. Enter the required information and select Sign In. For most accounts, this is your email address, password, and account name. The account name is displayed both in the left pane of the Mail app and in the Manage Accounts section. Remarks: "We couldn't find any information for this account. Please verify that your email address is correct and try again." You must select Retry three times before the button changes to Advanced. There is. Select Advanced and follow the steps in the next section to add your account. Select Done. Once your account is set up, your data will be synced. Note: Account synchronization may take several minutes. During this time, you may see "Not synced yet" in the message area. If this message persists, learn how to troubleshoot sync issues between the Mail and Calendar apps.

Utilizing advanced settings, add a new account. You can access your email account's advanced settings in one of two ways. Select Advanced Settings if the automatic email configuration in the previous step fails. Select Advanced Setup in second 2 at the top of the Select Account window. You might need to scroll to see the advanced choices, which are the last choice on the list. Either an Internet email account or an Exchange ActiveSync account are options.

Select Internet Mail unless your administrator tells you to use Exchange ActiveSync.

In the Advanced Setup window, enter the following information: ● Email Address: This is the name that will appear in the left pane of the Mail app. ● Username: This is your full email address. ● Password: Enter the password for your email account. Account name this is the name displayed in the left pane of the Mail app and under Manage account section. You can choose any name. Send messages with this name ENTER the name that recipients will see when they receive your message. Incoming Mail Server Get this information from your ISP or administrator. Incoming mail server addresses are typically in the form of mail.contoso.com or imap.google.com. For many email accounts, you can find this information in Microsoft POP and IMAP server name reference by Google it. Select the account type POP3 or IMAP4. Most email accounts use IMAP4. If you're not sure which to choose, ask your ISP. Outgoing (SMTP) Email Server Get this information from your ISP or administrator. Outgoing email server addresses are typically in the form of mail.contoso.com or smtp.contoso.com. By default, all four checkboxes at the bottom of the window are checked. Most e-mail accounts do not need to change these options. Your email provider will provide the settings you need to complete an advanced setup, but you can also visit our POP and IMAP server name references for the most popular email providers. After entering the required information, select Sign In > Done.

Troubleshooting problem of account setting If you're having trouble setting up your account, try the following: If you've upgraded to Windows 11 later versions, you'll need to re-add your account to the Mail app. Please make sure your email address and password are correct. Passwords are case sensitive. If you see the latest messages and not the older ones, you probably need to change your email sync period. If you get a message that your account has expired, you probably need to update either your password, incoming or outgoing mail server, or SSL

settings. For more information, see Fix Outdated Accounts.

Draft emails can be saved in the Drafts folder in Outlook. The Drafts folder

in Outlook is an email folder that stores emails that have been created but not yet sent. Similar to the Outbox folder, it is a temporary storage location for email. When you start composing a new email in Outlook and click the Save button on the Quick Access Toolbar, a copy of the email up to that point will be saved in your Drafts folder. This is useful if you need to give up composing long emails after booting. To save a draft email to Outlook after you start composing it, click the Save button on the Quick Access Toolbar of the Message window. Alternatively, click the File tab on the message window ribbon. Then click the "Save" command. The message appears in the Drafts folder in the Outlook Folders pane.

Attaching file to the mail To attach a file, locate the paperclip icon and select Attach File or Include > Attach File (Depending on the size of your new message window, it may appear differently). You can select files to attach from this menu in one of the following ways: ● Recently used items are displayed at the top and you can select one of them. ● Attaching an item allows you to attach a business card or an Outlook item (such as another email). ● Browsing web locations allows you to search for files in the web location associated with your email account. B. OneDrive or SharePoint. ● Browse This PC to find files in folders.

You can also attach files by dragging and dropping them from your desktop or another folder on your computer into the body of the email. Email attachments are almost all common file types, including Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, Powerpoint presentations, PDFs, and images such as JPEG and PNG files. Email attachments typically have a size limit of 10 MB (for business email accounts) or 20 MB (for Internet email accounts). A warning message will appear if you try to send an email with an attachment that is too large.

If the file is too large to attach, there are several ways to send it: ● Upload files to cloud storage sites like OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud, and share links instead. ● Compress or zip the file. This can be done by right-clicking in File Explorer and selecting Send To > Compressed (Zipped) Folder. ● For images, by attaching the image, clicking File > Info, and selecting "Resize large images when sending this message" in the Image Attachments section. , you can reduce the image file size. Receiver There are three different ways to send messages to recipients: ● Typing recipients in the To field is the most common way to send email to people. ●

If you enter a recipient in the Cc field, the recipient can receive and view emails just like the recipient in her To field. "Cc" stands for Carbon Copy, a term used when making paper copies using a typewriter and carbon paper. ● Typically used when the recipient needs to know the information contained in the email, but is not the direct recipient of the message. If you enter recipients in the Bcc field, they can receive and view your email, but none of the recipients will see the names or e-mail addresses of the recipients contained in the Bcc field. "Bcc'' stands for blind carbon copy. This is a good field for emailing very large groups or if you want to keep people's information private. Note that if the recipient chooses to reply to all of the email, the reply will not reach the person who Bcc'ed him in the original email. To enter recipients in the To and Cc fields, type them directly into the correct fields. To enter recipients in the Bcc field, you must first click Cc and then enter in the Bcc field. After adding someone to the Bcc field, click OK. When you return to your draft message, you'll see her Bcc field below the Cc field.

If you've emailed before, most email applications automatically fill in potential recipients when you start typing a name or email address. In this case, instead of typing the full email address, you can click the name in the field that appears.

Receive email Emails are displayed in chronological order in your inbox, with the most recently received emails at the top. The number in bold next to your inbox indicates the number of unread emails in your inbox. By default, emails are grouped as conversations. This means that when you receive or reply to messages, all replies will be grouped. Grouping emails as conversations is usually preferred as it allows you to quickly see all emails related to that conversation. If you prefer to view each email individually, you can change this setting by clicking the View tab and clearing the Show as Conversation check box. If you're using Microsoft Outlook 2019 or later versions, you'll notice that your inbox has two tabs: Focused and Other. Outlook automatically sorts your emails so that your most important emails go to Focused Inbox and the rest goes to Other Inboxes. Newsletters, machine-generated emails, etc. are moved to the Other inbox. You can easily switch between the two tabs at any time, and the banner at the top of the Focused tab gives you an overview of what has recently appeared in the Other tab.

If an email has been moved to the Other tab and you want to move it to the Focused tab, you can right-click the email and select Move to Priority. Similarly, once an email is in the Focused tab, you can right-click and select Move to Other. For your protection, you will receive many emails without images. If this happens and you trust the sender, you can click the warning message at the top of the email and select Download Image. You can also select Add sender to safe senders list to automatically download the image in future emails from this address.

Reply or Forward an Email When you receive an email, you can choose to Reply, Reply All, or Forward. Reply sends the reply only to the original sender. Reply All sends the email to everyone who was in the To or Cc fields of the original message, not just the original sender (but not everyone who was in the Bcc field, hence the name blind carbon copy). increase). When replying to an email or replying to all, "Re: ' at the beginning of the subject line. When forwarding an email, you can enter new recipients, but copy the original message to the new email. use the following command: Date: January 1, 2020

If you're looking for files created on January 1, 2021, you can use the following command: date: January 1, 2021

Use Boolean filters Boolean filters let you search for multiple terms at once or in combination with each other when using Windows Search. Here are some Boolean filters you can use to your advantage. "AND" parameter You can search for two search terms together using the AND parameter. This allows you to search for files that contain both terms and files that contain neither, which helps filter out unwanted results that contain either term. For example, if you're looking for files with "Samsung" and "galaxy" in their names, you can search for files using the following terms: Samsung and galaxy

This will exclude files with only "Samsung" and "Galaxy" in their name. Files containing either term are excluded. "OR" parameter The OR parameter is the opposite of the AND parameter, allowing you to search files that contain any word in your search term. For example, to search for files with "Apple" or "Airpods" in their name, you can use the following search terms:

apple OR airpods If you're looking for PDF and EXE files in a specific directory, you can use the command: kind:.exe OR .pdf

Here's how to search for multiple search terms in a single file name using the OR parameter. "NOT" parameter You can use the NOT parameter if you want to exclude specific search terms or fillet types. The NOT parameter excludes required file types, types, sizes, or names, depending on your selection. For example, if you're looking for other types of files in a folder full of .docx files and want to exclude them all, you can use the command: kind: NOT .docx

If you're looking for files that don't have "Apple" in their names, you can use the following search terms: NOT apple

Quotation marks You can use double quotes if you remember the exact term for the file you're looking for. This will force Windows Search to look for your exact search term using a specific format and capitalization to find the file you're looking for. For example, if you're looking for files with "Apple 2019" in the title, you can use the following command: "Apple 2019"

Bracket Parentheses are a boolean filter typically used when searching file contents as

well. Searches everything within brackets () and displays files containing some or all of the terms on the screen. For example, if you're looking for files that contain "Apple, Samsung, Mi, Microsoft, and Dell" or all of these terms, you can use: (Apple Samsung Mi Microsoft Dell)

Similarly, if you're looking for multiple file types, you can use the following command: kind:(.exe .pdf .txt)

How to use the calculator in Windows 11 In previous versions of Windows, the default Calculator app was pretty standard and frankly useless... However, Microsoft decided to give the Calculator app a major update in Windows 11. This upgrade added new features like a scientific calculator, programming capabilities, and more. One of them is a graphing calculator that can compete with standard graphing calculators on the market like Texas Instruments.

How to open the calculator in Windows 11 To open the Calculator, click the Start menu and type "calculator" in the search box. Then select the Calculator app.

This will open the default calculator app. Also, unless you remember to select the top left menu, you won't realize this is not the same as Windows 10's Calculator app. Select the menu to see all the options available for advanced calculator features.

To access the Graphing Calculator, select Graphs from the menu. A graphing calculator will open in the same small window. So unless you switch from graph mode to equation mode using the small toggle button in the upper right corner, you will only see graphs.

A better way to use the graphing calculator is to resize the window so that both the graph area and the equation editor are side by side within the same window.

How to use the graphing calculator in Windows 11 To show how the graphing calculator works, let's start with a simple quadratic equation. y = x² + 2. Enter this formula in the Enter the formula box and select the blue Enter key. Graphs are displayed in the left pane above the x- and y-axes.

How to operate the graphing calculator in Windows 11 To show how the graphing calculator works, let's start with a simple quadratic equation. y = x² + 2. Enter this formula in the Enter the formula box and select the blue Enter key. Graphs are displayed in the left pane above the x- and y-axes.

Now, the whole point of graphing calculators is that you can solve for the value of y given various values of x. Then you can trace the graph with a cursor to see values like this: B. y-intercept (for x = 0).

You can also use the Graphing Calculator to manipulate variables in expressions and see how those changes affect the graph. These are important when students learn algebra and how different elements of a function affect the output result. A good example is the linear function y = mx + b. This is one of the first functions students learn to understand how the slope and position of the lines on the graph relate to each variable. Enter this function as another expression and press the blue Enter key to plot.

Charts may not be centered or visible in the display. You can zoom in and out using the + and - buttons in the bottom right corner of the chart. You can also left-click and drag anywhere in the graph area to move the display in any

direction.

Selecting the Graph Options icon in the upper right corner of the graph will also give you options to adjust the minimum and maximum x and y values. This is another way to customize the chart display area. You can also customize the units between radians, degrees, and grads.

Selecting the Graph Options icon in the upper right corner of the graph will also give you options to adjust the minimum and maximum x and y values. This is another way to customize the chart display area. You can also customize the units between radians, degrees, and grads.

Also, try adjusting the m variable. If you do this with a linear equation, you'll see that the slope of the line increases or decreases.

Click the Analyze Function icon to the right of the expression to view the details of the expression you entered.

When selected, the graphing calculator analyzes the formula and provides important information such as x-intercept, y-intercept.

Set Live Static Tile Images for Photos App in Windows 11 Windows 11 has a beautiful Start Menu and Live Tiles for all your favorite apps. Live tiles in apps like Twitter and Facebook contain images pulled from stories and media shared in their respective feeds. Similarly, the Music and Video apps contain thumbnails of playable media. The Photos app will cycle through the photos in your photo library and any folders you add to the app. It looks like a live tile. You can turn off live tiles if you're worried about images scrolling through your app, but setting a single static image as the tile image looks much nicer. Method is as follows. Open the Photos app and go to the app settings by clicking the Settings button (gear) in the left column. Scroll down to the Tile section and select Single Photo from the Choose what appears on the photo tile drop-down menu. Then click the Select Photo button to select a photo to use as the tile image for your app.

You don't need to reboot the system for the changes to take effect, but there is some bug in Windows 10 that might prevent the tiles from changing immediately. If the tile doesn't update immediately, unpin the tile, then pin it again. If you still don't see the configured image, reboot your system.

A little advice when choosing images for your tiles is to consider the color of your Start menu and the font color in which your app's name appears. In the screenshot above, you can see that the image matches the Start menu color of the tile nicely, but the app name is hard to read.

Oops, it doesn't show up, so I know Microsoft Photos isn't already installed on this particular PC. VIEWING MICROSOFT PHOTOS IMAGES

Photos has a lot of features, but Microsoft wants you to think of it primarily as a photo viewer, so its features are somewhat hidden. This is evident the first time you boot using the image.

In this case, we had someone come over and do some basic maintenance on the garage. It's not a glamorous subject for this particular photo. Notice the gallery shortcut view below. This view shows small thumbnails of all images in a particular folder. You can use the arrow keys to move "left and right" to view all images, making it a great photo viewer. But what we're interested in is the button at the top. Let's take a closer look at them.

From left to right, these icons are "•••" to access Edit, Rotate, Delete, Favorites, and a few more choices. You can also zoom in and out using the controls on the right. There's a lot of power behind that harmless edit button! Click or tap it and...

PHOTO EDITING BASICS IN MICROSOFT PHOTOS Click the Edit button to change the display.

The toolbar at the top shows completely different icons. The left part allows you to zoom in and out, while the icons in the middle are Crop, Adjust, AutoFilter and Draw. This is a cropped view. You can click and drag one of the thicker parts of the photo frame to remove excess content. If the image is incorrect, you can rotate it using the slider at the bottom. This is often used when you find that the horizon does not exist in your landscape. Easy to fix with a slight rotational adjustment. I'm going to crop this image slightly so the repairman is in the center of the composition.

Note that some parts of the photo have been darkened. At this point, you can save the newly cropped image by clicking Save as a copy, but you can also click the Adjust button for further editing and optimizing by adjusting color, contrast, saturation, etc. You can also

Adjust contrast, color and saturation Clicking the adjust icon changes the image again and reveals a number of sliders.

You can see that I tweaked the saturation and warmth and added a vignette effect to the image. Hopefully things get a little better. If you're not familiar with using sliders, don't worry. Click the third icon above, the pencil, to access the preset filters.

Maybe "dramatically cool"? Hmmm…. maybe not. Anyway, feel free to experiment and try to your heart's content. Please resize the image before saving However, I would actually like to scale the image down a bit before saving it. This is easily done by right-clicking the image to bring up the context menu.

The resizing options are very well done as non-techies can figure out how to do it.

Now you can finally see the actual dimensions of the original image. 3516 x 2361. Why 1.9 MB instead of 2.9 MB? I applied some filters and transforms so Microsoft Photos was able to compress the image without resizing it. But I'm going to email this photo, so I'll choose Best for emails and messages, scale it down by about 50%, and put the file in < 1MB. In fact, two variations of the original image are saved so you can see their relative sizes.

The original image taken directly from the iPhone is 3019 KB (3.0 MB), the filtered, cropped and optimized image is 1.89 MB, and the resized image is reduced to 366 KB, reducing file size by almost 90%. I'm here. Are the few minutes and the fact that the photos look better definitely worth it? It's just a bonus. Enjoy Microsoft Photos!
