About this very cute book This very cute book is the 1st book in a series “PAWS” and is designed for children & adults who learn Russian. It has many simple, everyday words & phrases, and lots of cool pictures. This English-Russian dual-language book gives you an opportunity to easily translate from Russian into English: Before each Russian sentence, you’ll find the English translation of every Russian word from this sentence. Also, all stressed vowels in Russian words are marked in red. In this book, I’m trying to give a literal translation of each Russian word. So, when you translate a sentence, it might come out somewhat weird in English (just a warning…) Hope this will make you laugh, and not frustrated. это - this, these, it кошка - a female cat or a cat as species Это кошка. её - her зовут - is called Мурка - Murka (a very common name of a Russian female cat) Её зовут Мурка. она - she серая (f) - gray толстая (f) - thick и - and добрая (f) - kind Она серая, толстая и добрая. и - and она - she любит (m/f/n) - loves всех - all (objects: animate or inanimate), ~everyone (Accusative Case of все – all (objects)) И она любит всех. А – We use “A” in the beginning of phrases/sentences (when we talk or narrate) to make a conversation or a story “flow”. “A” is a separating particle that can be translated as “and”, “but” or not translated at all. это - this, these, it её - her
