Preface Imagine wrapping your faith around a promise from God as you are creating a sausage encased in a delectable golden brioche crust. Or rejoice in the fact that your sins have been rolled away as you take up that rolling pin and begin fashioning a lovely focaccia. Do you remember Jeremiah’s visit to the potter’s house and the vital message he received? It’s something to ponder as you prepare a M editerranean-style fish baked in a clay pot. Food for Thought is a palatable way to engage the believer who wants to grow in grace through the knowledge and application of God’s word. As many talented chefs have taken the wonderful edible provisions of God and created a unique dining experience, why don’t we honor the One who gave us these gifts by ruminating on His word in the culinary process? This book features essential ingredients that constitute a productive Christian life. It begins with the qualities of humility and submission, proceeding through the keynotes of praise, faith, persistence, abiding, consecration, and on to the glorious reward of anointing. Each axiom is paired with a recipe containing significant components (or food preparation methods) allowing the Word of God to take preeminence in the experience of the chef, as well as the guests at the table.
Introduction “In the beginning was the word. The word was with God and the word was God.” M editating on God’s laws day and night was one of the fundamental directions that God gave to Joshua, enabling him to prosper and have good success. When we acknowledge the Lord in all of our ways, He will direct us because “His word is a lamp unto our feet and a light to our path.” God watches over His word to perform it and will hasten His word to perform it. His word is forever settled in Heaven. It is sharper than a double-edged sword, dividing asunder the soul and the spirit. God sent His word and healed us. Jesus said that man does not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. He also said that Heaven and Earth shall pass away but His word will not. The Psalms describes the word as being pure, like silver, tried in a furnace seven times, and Paul (in the book of Thessalonians) admonishes us to “Test everything against the word.” Psalm 138 says: “Thou hast magnified Thy word above Thy name.” Jesus said: “I am the bread of life” and “M y words are Spirit, they are Life. I and M y Word are one.” JESUS IS THE LIVING WORD. The word of God is powerful. When it becomes part of our daily activities, a transformation takes place. We begin to think like Him. His desires become our desires. We are healed and delivered, becoming conduits of His love and mercy. “The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it” (Deuteronomy 30). As a spiritually hungry generation, we are looking for something
substantial: a hearty meal that will sustain us through the burdens of the day, or a gourmet delight that evokes awe and wonder in our Creator. There is a feast waiting for us if we choose to accept the invitation to His table. Food preparation is an opportunity to meditate on the Word. In this book, various recipes have been correlated with Bible truths that can be applied to our daily lives. Why not enhance the flavors of an entree with the aromatic oils and spices of God’s wisdom, or create an artfully designed platter from the perspective of Heaven?
