Each day I choose the chore I feel like doing, and start it as soon as possible; otherwise it might not get done later in the day. Be Prepared Every family should have savings of some kind. (Don't forget that Ufe insurance is a form of savings.) Ideally, you should have

on for one year. In saving money, you should have two goals— one short-term, one long-term. If you plan only for one, you probably won't manage or enjoy your money as well. A short-term goal might be to buy a piece of furniture or to take a week-end vacation. With a definite goal to look forward to in the near future, you will be surprised how easily you can cut out relatively unimportant expenses. You must ask yourself, "What is more important,

There are other advantages to mothers who breast-feed their children. A warmer, closer mother-baby relationship develops. Teach the child early to be independent by letting him try out his knowledge and skills. Allow him to make daily decisions, such as choosing clothes to wear for the day. Praise him for doing well, but don't criticize him if he fails to do well. He must be given the right to perform. When his performance or experiment doesn't bring him the returns he had expected, say to him: "I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. You are learning. Try again." Remind him that the important factors are that he tried and can learn from his mistakes. The results which come from trying out his own knowledge and skills will give him strength, security, and independence. Doing for a child what he can do for himself is extremely discouraging to him and interferes with his development.

For example, if a child knows that as soon as he gets up he makes his bed and gets dressed before he eats breakfast, it in is up to you as mother to direct him and to be consistent is that and your rules. Number one comes before number two, that!

Before giving a child a command or asking a favor of him, first gain his attention. Don't give too many directions at once. Phrase your directive in language he can understand. Tell him in

what you expect him to do, and ask him to repeat what you said until he has formed the desired habit. If you want him to wash his hands and face before eating, tell him exactly that. Later, you can simply tell him to prepare himself for dinner. (Every child should be taught to wash before and after meals.) detail

Teach your child to honor and obey his parents. Don't be afraid to discipline him. You may have found effective methods of teaching obedience, but a spanking once in a while goes a long way. The punishment should be consistent, and it should be clear

why he was reprimanded.

Be sure to consult the newspaper for food sales, and plan your menus for the week accordingly. Thirty minutes a week spent in such planning can save you up to 20 per cent a month in food costs. Moisture and Skin

House heating, sun, and age cause a lack of moisture in all even oily skins. The more moisture your skin has, the younger and softer it will look. Protect the dry areas with a veil of moisturizer morning and night. Everyone has some dry areas, even if it is only around the eyes. I find that usually a moisturizer worn during the day replaces the need for makeup foundation and powders. skins,

Pick-me-up. Beat one egg white into peaks and then mix in one teaspoon of honey. Pat on the throat and face, excluding the eye area. In about five minutes you'll begin to feel it set. Then wash it off with cool water.

Cucumber mask. Put one-half of a cut-up cucumber and one ounce of skim milk into an electric blender, then mix until you have a liquid pulp. Pat onto the face and throat. Leave it for about ten minutes. This tightens and refines the skin. Peaches 'n cream. Mix half a peach in the blender, and add one quarter-cup of sour cream. Coat the face and leave on for one minute. Rinse with cool water.

For evening, choose a darker shade than the colors you normally wear during the day, for most artificial lighting washes out the softer shades of lipstick. In the perfectly shaped lips, the bottom lip should be somewhat wider and fuller than the top. By adding a touch of iridescent white shadow or lipstick on the lower lip, you can

make

that lip appear fuller.

Teeth and

Gums

your teeth are sparkling clean and the gums are a healthy pink. Proper brushing helps to keep teeth white, eliminate cavities, and prevent torn, bleeding, or receding gums. Since most people brush their teeth often, it is as easy to do it right as to do it wrong. The correct way saves your gums, teeth, time, and money. Once the gums recede from the teeth, a small area is exposed that isn't covered with enamel. This tooth area will rapidly decay. To brush the teeth and gums simultaneously, place the tooth brush on the gum so you can massage your gums while you brush your teeth. Use an upward motion on the lower teeth and a downward motion on the upper teeth.

Men like women to be vivacious. Be certain, however, not to confuse desirable vivaciousness with aggressiveness. The former consists of enthusiasm and cheerfulness held in check by femininity, whereas aggressiveness is filled with overbearing loudness and briskness, and therefore repulses a man. Stepping out of your feminine role may help you to win a point, but it will make you lose much more— respect and femininity. It isn't worth it.

Even though a man is the head of the house, he doesn't want doormat for a wife; he wants an individual with self-respect and spirit. If you hope to enjoy respect from your husband, deserve it. Display self-respect and confidence. For example, when you want things done, within reason, show that you assume they will be done. Next, be prepared. If you expect him to take you to the store, be dressed and ready to go when you ask. When you have such a quiet assuming manner, he will not feel he is being pushed. He will simply realize that you are a

You chose your husband as the man of your life whom you would love and cherish, so keep his love and tender affection focused upon you. proach, she has studied

of Long Island,

New

York, and is a graduate of a charm school and of the Famous Writers' School. She is active in community volunteer work and in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. sity

The author's

native talents and percep-

tion have been enhanced

the

by her

travels in

USA, Canada and Europe, and by

a

wide range of hobbies and personal interests which embrace physical, mental and artistic pursuits. But her number one interest, she insists, is her air force husband, Fred Snyder, and their three children. This same wise message as to priorities and the way to married happiness comes through clearly
