Preface 2010 marks a significant year in the history of Laos when the entire Party, army and people were celebrating the 450th anniversary of the proclamation of Vientiane Capital and the 35th founding anniversary of the Lao PDR.,

the

90th birth anniversary of late President Kaysone Phomvihane and other national holidays. Over the past 35 years, our country has seen gradual development. These great achievements have reflected the correct leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party in guiding the national construction, which at all times upholds its ideal of making all efforts for the benefits ofthe nation and Lao people ofall ethnicities. The Party has consolidated all its ability, intellect and responsibility to direct and guide the cause ofnational defence and construction; known how to draw lessons from experiences and real acts at each period and times. Lao people of all ethnic groups have raised their spirit of patriotism, love for the new regime, maintained their cohesive unity firmly, worked hard to make a living for the well-being ofthe national community as well as prosperity ofthe nation. On this significant occasion and with reference to the direction ofthe management ofthe Ministry of Information and Culture with regard to the publicity for these important days, the Lao News Agency "KPL" has published a photo book

"35 years ofthe Lao PDR" in two languages - Lao and English. It comprises four parts as follows: Part I: Laos, Lao people and tradition of unyielding struggle Part II: Under the guidance of the Party Part

State has been improved and consolidated Achievements in national defence and construction and development Although this photo book will not reflect all achievements, our editorial board still hopes that it will contribute ro the publicity, information on the achievements of historical significance in the causes of national defence and construction gained in the past 35 years under the clear-sighted leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary party.
